Went for a colonoscopy today plus the upper but I forget what that one is called. The prep is the ugly. The bad though not too was a slight hiatal hernia. The good was only one small polyp so I do not have to repeat for five years! The last one was just two years ago after just six months for a fairly large polyp.

Anyway, folks be brave. Get your checkups!

I had one last spring. The prep is nasty!

The anesthetic they used on me during the procedure was fantastic. I was laying there and she said you might start feeling drowsy. I said "I don't feel any different than I did 10 minutes ago." She smiled at me and said "Mr. Mossroad? Wake up, it's all over."

I was in a different room and my wife was sitting there laughing at me because I was passing gas in my sleep. Don't remember 1 second of what happened in between. Felt pretty good. Waited half an hour, walked out to the car, went and got a huge sub sandwich, ate, wife and I drove up to a casino, gambled a bit, and took a drive through the country on a nice afternoon.

Easy-peasy once you poop your brains out. :p

Had my first one a couple of years ago. No where near as bad as I thought it was going to.

Being my first one, I made sure I got a souvenir:D

 . . . I hear that! I'm 76 and have been getting them every 5 years since 50 (they found 3 the first go around) so every 5 years I go through the same . . . been perfect since. :drink: and I should mention I had a friend/brother from SEA times that died from it . . . sad because it was so preventable, that one really hurt me.

I'm at the 5 year phase too. I think the prep has gotten better. Seems like back in the good ole days the "juice" you drunk, tasted like lemonish flavoured soapy water. Also just did the top down and this anesthetic was great! I have a tendency to try to get off of the table, while things are going on. Not this time though, got a little sleepy, then someone calling me by my first name.

Yeah....they seem to be easier to handle now. Either the cameras are getting smaller or the path is getting bigger.:confused3:

April 7, 2003, I had a colonoscopy & esophagogastrodluodenoscopy, removed 2 polyps from below and one from above, so then on June 5, 2013 I had another colonoscopy and all was well, so I've not done it again since then. My first time was about 1980 and the doctor said it would just be a mild sedative. Well, it got to hurting enough that I couldn't lay still and I heard him telling the girl to give me another shot, and I woke up late that evening in a room. I'd been booked in for a night. The colonoscopy revealed no problem but he said he had a hard time because I was having colon spasms. He asked if I had a problem with constipation and I told him; NEVER.

And yep, the prep has really changed over the years. I know for my first one, I had to get 2 gallons of distilled water, mix in a package of powder in each one and then drink the entire 2 gallons.

I'm due for one now, been 5 years, my last one was due to my younger brother having stage 4 colon cancer. My test found nothing, but because of family history, I am on the 5 yr plan. Used my my spending account funds so want to wait until first of year if possible.

At my first one the doc and hospital were very specific that I was to be taken home kept there and be under adult supervision all day. I was absolutely not to sign anything. We questioned why the emphatic isolation at home. They told us of a patient they had who woke up at home the next day, opened her garage and wondered where the brand new car came from. Yup, she bought a new car and had no memory of it.

A couple of times later I was sent to a clinic for one. The nurse giving the anesthesia was very pretty, very curvaceous and very enthusiastic. She admitted she scares her husband because she likes giving anesthesia so much. The procedure went well but I will never go to that clinic again. But dang she was hot!

Ya ain’t lived unless you have had a partial one while wide awake, no sedatives no anything right in the doctor’s office. The doctor, a young attractive nurse and me. They now are a piece of cake compared to that.
