That was of course the day that Buddy Holley died. Lately though, we are losing some of what I would term "our generations" greats. David Bowie, Glenn Fry and a number of actors.

With a leap of faith, I get the feeling that many of the members are more or less my vintage (65)? If so, going back to the crazy days of the late sixties and early seventies, no matter what, we had some great music. Certainly much better than what IMHO is being made today. It seems like rock songs try to hard to cover to many themes, country is for those that cannot make it in the rock world, etc, etc.

Anyway, we are barely into the new year and everyday we hear of someone that once was (or perhaps still is) relavent passing on. RIP

Great timing on Buddy Holly discussion. Wednesday, February, 3rd wiil be the 57th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. Richardson ,The Big Bopper in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Ironic, the plane crashed in a snowstorm and high winds, the same is forecast tomorrow, on February, 2, 2016.

If it weren't for Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Brown, would there have even been a band the "Eagles"?

T'is true that Slash Pine. Mr. Cale wrote a bunch of stuff that most folks aren't aware of. Same as Mr. Dylan. And going back on topic, sorta..... Mr. Jackson Browne wrote a bunch of the songs that made the Eagles what they were/are???

Perhaps a more apt title for this thread would be "The year the music died"? Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame has died apparently by suicide at the age of 71 years.

Guess we don't have anyone around that liked Prince since no one has posted on his passing yet. I did not care for him or his music either but many do/did. Like him or not, he was successful and he did his own thing, I will give him that and therefore add his name to those we have lost this year.

What a lot of folks didn't know about Prince is that on many of his albums he played ALL of the instruments. All of them.

If you can ever get a chance to watch him live on SNL, season 31, episode 12, Feb 4, 2006 I believe, premiering his song Fury, watch it. He's playing a little guitar.... ;)

Please, aren't we hearing enough about this guy on tv??? I really don't want to read about him on a tractor forum. I was never a fan of his although I respect others that were. I'm just tired of this media hoopla...he wasn't God.

If the medical examiner releases the cause of death, IMO we will see there is one less junkie in the world.

Prince played 27 different instruments on his debut album at age 20.

It's sort of what this thread is all about... you might want to unsubscribe to this one.

Afraid so.

I loved his music.

He got hooked on pain killers and OD'd. Hate it that the media plays him up to our young listeners.

The King (Michael), the Queen (Whitney) and now the Prince (Prince) all died of drug overdose. Then we wonder why our society idolizes drugs so much?? :(
