Kubota BX2200D (Now gone)
After weeks of looking at tractors, reading TBN, pulling the trigger ... then waiting ... and waiting ... the BX is here!

I figure everyone's seen a BX2200 w/ 60" MMM and FEL - but wait! This one's got a rear worklight! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This pic shows it in front of the unruly lawn that it tamed over the next hour.

Here it is on the delivery truck at the bottom of the driveway that convinced me I needed a 4wd tractor.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you there! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

MCA--here\'s a caution for you

You are probably a lot smarter than I am and your terrain is DEFINITELY a lot steeper, but I pass along this tip FYI. It's easy to get in this situation, and with your terrain, it could be really scary!

If you dismount the tractor, the safety seat kills the engine (unless you catch it fast enough to flip the seat forward). Now to start it, you have to put the tractor in Neutral.

WOW! If you have not set the brake, dropped the bucket, and turned the wheels uphill, your BX is gonna FLY down that hill before you can set the brake. Now my terrain is absolutely flat compared to yours, but I did the scenario a couple of times, and when I pulled the BX to N, it started rolling down the driveway. I was able to hit the brakes, but it was not a comfortable feeling being out of control.

Be safe out there!

RONR, I have a bx 2200 and i can leave it runing and get off without it stoping, i can even leave the mid mount mower engaged and get off and my bx does not stop (not that i recomend it).

Right - there is no "presence switch" like on the green 2210 that I was also considering. I will however be careful on the hill. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Fortunately the rest of the yard is pretty flat.

Ron, Kubotas do not have that so called safety switch. If I had one I would have long ago removed it. Both my 2410 and my BX2200 will continue to run and the PTO remains engaged if you get off the tractor. It will also continue to run in reverse so it is possible to mow going backwards which is sometimes handy--like when backing off a yellow jacket nest /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.
I tell you guys, I hope Kubota NEVER gives in to the lawyers and install those stupid switches /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. The only switch mine have is the BX has to be in neutral to start and the 2410 you must push the clutch in (it is a hydro) for the starter to engage and I like it that way. J

Trescrows and all,

Well, they may have. The literature for the BX series indicates that the seat switch is present. I hope not as I ordered a 2200 little sister for my B2910...

I'll have to ask the dealer tomorrow. But from what others have indicated...this my be a feature on the newer BXs, not just the 1500... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I posted a question about this specific thing in Kubota owning/operating and I believe it was stated there that the seat switch is now used on the 1800/2200. I will have to go back to that thread and see if I read right or not...

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Bill, seat switch or not it should be easy to remove. Yeah, I know, all the tractor weenies will tell you not to and how you are ruining the tractor and how the lawyers are going to sue you and bla-bla,bla-bla babla. You know what, me, I would disconnect it and never look back because frankly I do not care what Ralph Nader thinks. Think outside the box--cut the wire /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. J

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Well, since mine arrived on 7/3 and has no such switch you should be safe from the saftey police ... at least for now.

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Thanks MCA,

Trescrows,

Yea, I'm afraid if there was one it would not be in the circuit long. Probably need to short that switch out, rather than cut the wire though. My guess is that kind of interlock circuit uses normallly open contacts that are closed when the switch is pushed...

My old garden tractor had a stupid feature, it would not cut in reverse and if the mower was running and you shiften into reverse, the engine shut down...that lasted about 10 minutes after I got it home...

I'm surprised they don't have a sensor to turn the engine off if you take your seat belt loose! Whoops...perhaps this is a preview of things to come... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

I don't mind putting my BX22 in neutral to start. The seat switch would be of no value. How do you line up your backhoe when installing it. You have to be off the tractor while it is running. I would not get off the tractor with my brush hog engaged. I don't like getting hit with flying debris. many times you need to be off the tractor while it is running. The seat switch does not make any sense. Removing the lawyers from our lives, that makes sense... Gary

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Bill:

My 5030 has a switch under the seat. If you get out of the tractor with the pto engaged, the motor turns off. To operate the pto without you on the seat, get in start it in neutral, get out, tip the seat forward and then walk around the cab, open the door and engage the pto. I don't think cutting the wire would do it, however, I think you'd have to jumper the switch so the seat thinks there is "someone" in it all the time.

You can "inch" the tractor forward and backward without sitting on the seat, however. Just a touch on the HST pedal will move the tractor a little. Any more than that will kill the engine. I call it a "big brother switch".

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

Good grief, when I said cut the wire I was being ornery. Yes, in most cases you will actually jumper the switch. All these switches are going to do in time is cause problems anyway--get rid of them. J

Re: MCA--here\'s a caution for you

5030, yeah, I wear my seat belt in my motor vehicle and I also wear it on my tractor and I wear my helmet on my bike and I wear my harness when I fly---next question. I tell you this for sure--if my airplanes quit when they were flown upside down or my Tundra engine shut off when it was in neutral or reverse (so you cannot have a backing accident) or my bike quit running when my rear was not in the seat---I would cut, jumper, remove, mutilate, blow torch or whatever is appropriate to the offending switches and wires and that would include on my tractor. Is that clear enough for you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif? I also removed the "Do Not Remove Sticker" from our new matress--is that OK or will the police come after me /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif? If I sell that matress and the new owners roll off and break their rearends will they be able to hire a lawyer and sue me---? Do I care? Live Free, Die Free and unencumbered by the PC Thought Police. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif J
