My YM2310 needed another new solenoid. The last solenoid started to fail within 6 months. For about 1.5 times the cost I bought a gear reduction starter. On the advice of bmaverick I bought a gear reduction starter. That starter spins the engine much faster than the stock starter. I love it.

I wasn't trying to hood-wink you by saying it spins and starts better, cause . . . it does. :giggle:

The starters are rated by power used to spin.
So much is lost in the old coil style as the output is robbed.
With the OSGR, most of the power goes to the output to spin.

The next winter, try starting without the thermo-start in the very cold. It will start just fine as the OSGR spins faster allowing the compression to take hold readily.

Cold weather is the key. It's super cold it's going to be super slow. On my cold starts I always counts how long it takes for the oil light to go out. And release the Decompression lever. In Ga. in 4Sec. warm 6cold weather. Have to honestly say I only started it in 30deg. weather once or twice. No Thermal either. I have it and it does work. No need for it. The ford gas is what that comes in handy for. Warm or cold so I keep the best of both worlds. Both simple easy to work on.
