IT is my day job.

95% of the phones/computers/electronics I work on can be fixed by restarting it.
4% of that can be fixed by letting it sit off overnight and trying it again in the morning.
.5% need repair, and the other .5% just need to be brought near an IT guy to begin working again.
I used to have a person that would ask me to come over and talk nice to their computer. It always worked... after rebooting. ;)

I remember many times PCs would stop working on the network. You could reboot until the cows came home. You could power it off and wait a week. Still wouldn't work. Finally figured out you had to power it down, unplug it from the AC cord (or kill the power strip), let it sit for 5-10 minutes, ORRRR.... unplug it and then push the power button while it was unplugged. Apparently there's a CAP in the network cards they had that would hold it in the non-functioning state even if you powered it off. By unplugging it, then pushing the power button, it drained the CAP and lost the hold on that state.

People on phone support would get really mad sometimes if you asked them to unplug it and keep it unplugged while pushing the power button. They'd argue with you:

"It won't turn on if it's not plugged in!"

We know. 🙃

Convincing them that we're not trying to turn it on by pushing the ON button is kinda tricky.

And everyone in New Delhi is calling me because my car warranty is expiring, they can eliminate my credit card balance, my cousin's in jail, I owe back taxes, I missed jury duty, I won a free cruise, my computer needs repair, my uncle died leaving me money, they need my Medicare number, I need home improvements, I need to donate to police-firemen-donkey rescue-Ukraine- veterans-unwed mothers or 100+ others, or my social security is expiring!

Been to New Delhi and Delhi, looks nicer from the air.
Actually, one whole part is government and has nice houses on little well cared for lawns and has the consulates. The rest is as above.
Why everyone wants to be in government or IT there, can't blame them.

We had a lady at the corporate IT help desk named Sue. We all called her “Reboot Sue“. As far as we could determine that was the extent of her Help knowledge. 🙄
