Does anyone have a source for buying a two or three stage hydraulic ram that could be used for a dump trailer? I would like to build a trailer 6' x 10' with 3' sides and a capacity of 12-14k. Lifting from a reinforced front would work much better than the mechanisms commonly used nearly centered in the bed.

If it was me, I would go to a truck salvage yard, if you are careful, you can buy the whole setup, for half what a new one will cost. Make sure you have the correct hydraulic source for the application.

I'm with Willis. Telescoping cylinders are $$$...

Yep, new ones are pricey. But, the old ones are in the salvage yard for a reason. Did you ever price rebuilding a telescopic cylinder? If you get a used one, be absolutely certain that it doesn't leak. Price of a used one plus price of a reseal equals more than a new one. Best part of buying new is that you get exactly what you need.

Agreed Wayne. To clarify my previous post: I would look for a used dumping mechanism, meaning a normal cylinder scissor-type lift and then buy a new cylinder for it...

My misunderstanding. You have to excuse me, I only have 2 brain cells left, and some days they don't speak to each other.

Good luck finding a used scissor lift mechanism. It would be alot easier getting a regular ram but I know you want the scissor type.

Building one would be easier but finding prints for it would be next to impossible.

I found a place that was wrecking old car carrier trailers and grabbed a couple of rams in a swap. They go to about 9' but I haven't got my project going yet. (Rams are still burried in the barn) I like the idea of a rams on each side, (since I have them). The geometry of the forces seems really weird but is supposed to work......
