Ok, so I have finally figured out what color and size my dream tractor will be and yesterday I was able to get my lovely wife to go with me to the NH dealer and actually drive a new Boomer...so now all that is left is the negotiations. The dealer gave me a price for a TC40D,R4,Foldable ROPS,Super Steer,17la w/72", 84"MMM rear discharge, wood 6'brush bull and a 6'box scraper for the low low price of $27,540! I was thinking it should price out at about $22,000. Am I unrealistic or is this the going price? Also, the dealer said the 84"MMM is the only one that fits that tractor. True or False?
Help please!

The 84" is the only midmount mower available from NewHolland. I was going to buy the same mower with my TC40D but instead went with a Farm King 84" rear discharge three point hitch mower. This is a finish cut mower, not a rought cut like a rotary cutter. The 84" MMM I believe has a list price of just over $4000 and you need to install the mid pto. I saved about $2500 going with the three point hitch mower. The midmount mowers are a little easier on your neck as you aren't always looking back but the attaching/detaching is much easier with the three point mount. Another consideration might be resale value. My dealer has sold several of the Class III Boomers without any of the midmount mowers. Dealers may not be willing to put as much into a used 84" mmm when you trade. In my case I won't be using the TC40D for the yard area around my house. I have a smaller tractor for that. I will use the TC and three point mower for around my trees and the rest of the property. I have a JD flail mower but I wanted a nice finish cut even for the area not close to the house. If the TC is going to be your only tractor I think the mmm will probably do a better job than the three point hitch model.

your 22,000 price sounds good without the MMM brush bull and box scraper, with the stuff included the 27,540 does sound close if not a little high.

The TC40D will be my only tractor/mower (at least that what my wife tells me), so sounds like the MMM is the way to go. Is the Super Steer worth the extra$$$? Are there any known problems with this feature?

The only problems I have ever heard of w/the SS option is that some people don't put enough air in their tires and while turning very sharp w/a loader full of dirt will sometimes break loose the bead on the front tire, this is what the NH dealer told me. I think too many go w/out this option for it to be a "must have". This is indeed a nice option, don't get me wrong but when working w/a limited budget as most of us have to, cut the things you really might not need, I.e mid mount mowers and SS. Go w/a good 3 point rear discharge. Hope this helps and you're getting a very nice tractor. Good luck

Doggone,

I agree with Kevin. $22000 would be a good price for tractor and loader. As for the implements, it depends on the models and mfrs. Who makes the box blade? Is the BrushBull the 72 model or the 720? Those little differences change the cost fast.

As far as SuperSteer, I have it on my 40D. It's true you can live without it, but I sure do like it. The only problem I have had is trying to line it up to the quick-detach bucket. While turning the steering wheel one way, the loader turns the other. Not a big deal, but took a couple of times to get used to. If possible, test drive one and see how you feel about it.

Another good feature if you're going to be mowing is the Sensitrac clutch, which only comes w/ SS. You're in full-time 4wd so no slipping, but when you start to turn sharply, the 4wd disengages and you don't tear up the grass. I've been doing my front yard and haven't torn up the grass at all.

Read through the old posts. There have been several new TC 40Ds bought recently, some with SuperSteer, and most of us posted our price here.

Wow! Thanks for the good information. I will definetly go for the SS. Can anyone recommend a good 3PT finish mower? Will I be able to mow tightly around trees with a 3PT mower. How about forks? I read some of the discussions and I started thinking about all the things I could lift when my 6 kids finally leave the house! Do they get used a lot? (not the kids, they know the answer to that one). Can anyone recommend a good dealer in Indiana? Thanks for the replies.

Doggone: Where abouts in Indiana do you live? I'm in Southewest Indiana not too far from Evansville. Blesch Brothers in Holland, Indiana has been outstanding to work with. How well you mesh with your dealer should be a major consideration in purchasing your unit.

I know there are dealers in Spencer and BrazilGreencastle area as well. Have not dealth with them, but have talked to some that have and they both got high marks as well.

Good luck. By the way, I pull a 6' BushHog Brand Finish Mower, rear discharge to mow 8 acres of yard....love it.

Doggone,

I got a set of forks with my tractor when I bought it. I have used them about as much as I have the bucket. I have some pics of my tractor with the forks on at and using the forks to remove a huge stump. And a close up pic here.

Definitely think about getting the heavy duty bucket and possibly welding on some hooks, although that is needed less if you get the forks.

Mid-mount vs rear mower has been debated here tons of times, lots of good information in the Attachments forum. I'm partial to the 3ph for ease of hookup and the ability to back under trees and into the corners of fences. But I'm sure MMM have their strong points too. Guess it is personal taste more than anything.

I enjoyed those pics BColeman, so very nice. That stump looked to be a bear to get out of the ground and the NH doesn't look tired at all. I only have one question for you, how do you get people to take pictures for you when you're working?? Everytime I start up the woman of the house and all my friends run for the hills, guess I don't when to quit working.

Nice pictures! I took the plunge today and ordered a TC40D w/ss and a 17a loader with quick detach heavy duty 72" bucket. I found a dealer close to where I purchased 50 acres to build our dream home. I will wait on the attachments until I need them. It makes the price a little easier to convince my better half:) I went for the 3 years@2.9%. I'm more excited about getting my tractor than building our dream home...it must be a guy thing! It is amazing to me that a week ago I didn't even know that New Holland made tractors...I know, I'm not supposed to tell you all how uninformed I was, but after reading the "the ultimate compact tractor guide " and ALL of the discussion of all of you, I can say with confidence that I am an educated buyer! Thanks to all for your help. Any additional advice on deliver etc... would be appreciated.

Congratulations! That is a fine tractor you bought. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I'm sure you'll be very happy together.

Great day! I read this board every day for two years and still was nervous when I bought my tractor. I wish I could make decisions that fast. And we both arrived at the same decision. You just got there much faster. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Congrats and welcome to the Blue group! (I wonder if NH could convince the "Blue Man Group" from Chicago to endorse their product? That might be a wild looking ad! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif)

When do you expect to get your new baby?

Maybe my decision looked fast on paper but I have been looking (not serious) for a tractor for the past 6 years. We moved from Iowa to Indianapolis and I sold my pride and joy a 801 powermaster. We are so excited to be moving to the country again and...I get to have a tractor!!! I talked to the dealer today and he was looking for the tractor at other dealers. Is this common? Would you advise me to ask them to get it from the factory? I don't mind waiting a little while ecspecially since we don't close on land until end of May! My wife thinks I'm getting the cart before the horse but I happy either way the deal goes!
That's an awesome idea about the BLUE MAN GROUP! /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif I'm sure they would love it. Let me know what they say /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Since you are already waiting until the end of May for the property I would tend to get one from the factory. Sometimes the tractors can sit on a dealer's lot for quite a few months. If you are planning on keeping it in a barn you might not want a unit that has sat in the sun and rain for the past 8 months.

Let us know what you do and be sure to post pics when you get the property and new baby! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

When I bought my tractor, the dealer called up the next day and said he had located one two states away and it could be there the next Tuesday. I told him I wasn't interested in one that had been sitting out in the sun faded since I was keeping it in the garage. So he cancelled that one and ordered one from the factory. It arrived the next Thursday, just two days longer than the one sitting on a dealer's lot.

If you're not in the huge rush, I would try to get one from the factory. That way you're sure it has all of the latest fixes.

One of the dealers I got a quote from had a TC 35 sitting on the lot that was still the old color blue. I don't know why it hadn't sold, but it only had 1.5 hours on it so another dealer might get it in for one of their customers, I sure wouldn't be happy if it were me.

I talked to the dealer today to let him know I wanted the tractor to come from the dealer and he was fine with that. He said I can expect my tractor within 3 weeks./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Thanks Brad for the heads up. I also ordered a grille guard for $188!/w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif and forks for $625.
Has anyone purchased the extended warranty, 60 months/5000hrs. for $960?

Doggone, my dealer said 3 weeks too. It took exactly 10 days if I remember correctly. Hopefully yours will be about the same.

Yesterday was a good day! I finally got to use my new TC40! After looking at it for the last month sitting in my shed while we closed on our property and readied our current house to list for sale. I didn't know I could be that patient. I put it to the test yesterday and cleared out acres of brush...Wow! I absolutely love my not so new looking tractor! Thanks again for helping me with my decision.
