Slippy,
Below is some information on the JD 3020 series and the NH TC35,40, and 45 series.
Some of the points Neil has brought up are excellent things to look at also. Print this off and do your research.
New Holland Class III Deluxe Tractors
TC35DA, TC40DA, TC45DA
The New Holland Class III compacts are rated at 35,
40, and 45 gross engine hp. All deluxe models have
a standard two-pedal hydrostatic transmission. The
Class III deluxe compacts also come standard with
a four speed DualPower transmission. FWD is
standard, and SuperSteer w/ Sensitrak is optional
on all Class III deluxe compacts. The TC35DA,
TC40DA and TC45DA are designed to meet the
growing demands of farmers, large property owners.
John Deere 3020 Series
3520, 3720
John Deere offers four models in the 3020 series,
offering 29.5, 32.5, 37, and 44 gross engine hp.
This comparison will focus on the 3520 and 3720.
The 3520 and 3720 engines are turbocharged. John
Deere offers a standard 12 x 12 gear transmission
(except 3120 & 3720) or an optional hydrostatic
(eHydro) transmission.
New Holland Engine
Benefits
• 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated diesel engines
(TC35DA has a 3 cyl engine) manufactured by ISM
• TC40DA and TC45DA have considerably higher
displacement, with 121.7 cu in (2.0 L) and 135.2 cu
in (2.2L)
• The TC40DA has a 33.3% larger displacement,
while the TC45DA has a 48% larger displacement
than comparable JD model
Value
• A larger displacement means more torque and
more power to get the job done
John Deere Engine
• 3 cylinder diesel engines manufactured by Yanmar
• Significantly less engine displacement, with 91.3
cu. in (1.5 L) on the 3520 and 3720
• The 3520 and 3720 are turbocharged
New Holland Hydraulics
Benefits
• Implement pump flow is 9.8 gpm, total pump rated
output is 14.9 gpm
• Both the implement pump flow and total pump
rated output are a full gpm more than Deere
• 2330 lb 3-point lift capacity (TC40DA and TC45DA),
2025 lb lift capacity (TC35DA)
Value
• Handle a wider range of attachments
• Handle larger attachements with less strain on the system
John Deere Hydraulics
• Implement pump flow is 8.6 gpm on all models
• Total pump rated output is 13.9 gpm on all models
2200 lb 3-pt lift capacity
NH Class III Rear Axle
Benefits
• Axle is visibly built heavier
• Flex link ends, telescoping stabilizers, and crank
style leveling mechanism are all standard equipment
• Category one 3-pt with 2330 # lift capacity
Value
• Deluxe 3-pt is standard equipment
• Broader range of implement usage or hauling
ability
• Easy to hook up implements, even for the novice
JD 3020 Series Rear Axle
• Axle is visibily lighter
• 2200 # lift capacity, 130 # less than the TC40DA
and TC45DA
• Overall construction of rear end is weak, 3-pt arms
are pin-on, not cast into rear axle
• Flex link ends are optional
• Crank style leveling device is not available
NH Operator’s Station
Benefits
• High-back contoured seat w/ inclined track for fore and
aft adjustability
• Full suspension seat with weight adjustability
• Swivel seat adjustment
• Steering column tilts and telescopes
• Color coded and embossed controls
Value
• Operator convenience and comfort is superior, makes
for a more productive and less fatigued operator
JD 3020 Series Operator’s Station
• Operator sits low on the tractor and seat is on a
horizontal plane, this leads to poor visibility
• Seat does not swivel
• Steering column tilts, but doesn’t telescope
• No embossed or color coded controls and controls
are not as sturdy. Fenders are also not as sturdy.
NO 12 volt power socket
NH Class III Construction
Benefits
• TC40DA weighs approximately 3250 pounds, while the
TC45DA weights approximately 3330 pounds
• The TC40DA weighs 350 # more than comparable JD
model, while the TC45DA weights 430 # more than
comparable JD model
Value
• More durable equipment over the long-term
• More productive with larger, heavier tools
JD 3020 Series Construction
• Weight on all models is advertised at 2900 lbs
• Light weight axles
• Smaller axle flanges
NH Class III Serviceability
Benefits
• One-step service access
• Can gain complete access to engine with one
piece fiberglass hood
• Dual gas-charged prop cylinders raise the hood
with ease
Value
• Convenient service saves time, more productive
• No tools required for proper maintenance
• Proper maintenance leads to longer life
JD 3020 Series Serviceability
• Hood prop rod
• Hood flexes noticeably when being raised, notice
how close the hood is to the muffler when the hood
is in the vertical position
• Access to air filter is very cumbersome and time
consuming. Rubber strap holds air cleaner in,
which is very difficult to access. Make sure your
prospect sees this!
• Non-flow-thru radiator design. Lower cost alternative
vs. a flow thru radiator on the NH compact
tractors.
• The radiator prescreen is made of plastic
NH Class III Lighting Package
Benefits
• Two top mounted halogen corner worklights
• Two halogen headlights with dual beams
• 21st century styling!
Value
• Provides superior nighttime illumination and
visibility
JD 3020 Series Lighting Package
• Two halogen headlights
• No sidelights or worklights
• Visibility with loader is poor in nighttime applications
NH SuperSteer with Sensitrak
Benefits
• Smallest turnaround diameter in the industry
• Sensitrak automatically engages and disengages
FWD, “Set it and forget it”
• Longer wheelbase (81” vs 68”)
• NH exclusibe, JD and Kubota cannot match!
Value
• Greatest turning productivity--75 degree turning
angle
• Sensitrak saves turf and tires
• The longer wheelbase provides more stability
JD Front axle
• 62 degrees of turning angle (versus 75) means
more direction changes. With a standard FWD axle
a 62 degree turning angle can tear up turf.
• Manual FWD consumes more fuel and tears up turf
when turning, not good for turf applications
• 13” shorter wheel base means a less stable stance
and not as smooth of a ride
• 5.5” shorter wheelbase vs NH Class III standard
NH Class III Visibility
Benefits
• Sloped hood design with 4 halogen headlights
• Can see side to side as well as in front of bucket in
loader applications
• Smallest blind spot in the industry
Value
• No visibility obstructions equals more productivity
and better safety
JD 3020 Series Visibility
• Semi-sloped hood design with only 2 halogen
headlights
• Operator sits very low on the tractor and the seat is
on a horizontal plane to provide poor visibility
• Semi-curved boom design detracts from visbility
as well
• Many blindspots
NH Driveline Efficiency
Benefits
• Industry leader in driveline efficiency (horsepower
transferred to PTO horsepower)
• TC35DA and TC40DA have 83 % driveline efficiency
• TC45DA has 84% driveline efficiency
Value
• More efficient engine HP to PTO HP to get the job
done
• Increased power to implements and attachments
JD Driveline Efficiency
• Driveline efficiency ranges from 74.6% to 81%
• Inefficient driveline. Remember, PTO horsepower
is what does your work.
16LA and 17LA Loaders
Benefits
• True curved boom loader; one-piece design
• Larger rectangular torque tube
• Cast iron boom ends
Value
• Curved boom design means better visibility and
eliminates stress at welded joints
• Durable and reliable loader
• Construction grade loader--
300CX Loader
• Semi-curved boom, two piece construction with
welded joint
• Semi-curved boom still impairs visibility and is
less durable than a true one-piece curved boom
• Small diameter torque tube
• Low grade boom ends
• Not a construction grade loader!
Check these areas out, I think you will find as a few other people have stated, their are some real differences!
Hope this helps.
