TC33DA - adding oil slowly to avoid engine damage?

Dieselscout80,
Thanks for link. I now will NEVER consider buying a New Holland product now that I can see the lack of thoughtful engineering design they put into making their products. In your link there is a post #3 and pic labeled ref 8 that supposedly indicates the connecting rod came into contact with the cylinder wall skirt at least once and possibly more. This would most likely be due to bent connecting rod due to hydro lock of the piston. If the internal crank case vent is that poorly designed then I would be looking for the recall and a new engine. If no recall then sell that tractor as it begs what other half assed designs are included on that machine.

What happens if the oil return passages become constricted or blocked? Same outcome as pouring oil in to fast. A big bill and a dead machine ALL due to sloppy design.
They sold tons of these TC series machines with the japanese engine. And I bet there are still tons running around every day. My machine has 3100hrs with no major issues and I didnt even know about this until a few weeks ago.

I really love my TC45DA the only thing wrong with it is it needs another 10 more HP.

Remember they are all good when running, they all breakdown and all of them suck when broken down.

Have a TC34DA. They changed the oil fill location on the later model TC series. Still had the upper oil fill location but they added a lower fill toward the rear of block. Actually heard of a guy that hyro-locked his TC29 from filling oil to quickly and then starting it

They did a fix with later models (don't know the year). I made a Pour Oil Slowly label and put near the filler cap.

I never had a problem with my 1999 TC33D. I would change the oil when the engine was hot so it drained quickly and completely. I would think that the hot engine would thin the new oil so it ran down to the crankcase quickly too.

Subscribed, because I've never heard of such a thing - which positively isn't to say it isn't! that's why I'm following!

Is this particular to this engine, or is it supposedly an all-engines type of thing?
It's real. A known problem with that series of TC engines. Lots has been written about it. It's a design feaure...er, problem or whatever.

Oil will always pool, especally when pouring in new cold oil too rapidly. On that engine, pouring oil in too rapidly can cause oil to overflow into an intake intake manifold passage that should have been designed to be a little higher.

Cure is to not do that....pour slowly. Probably good practice in any engine.

This is not an issue. I owned a TC33D for 22 years with over 2500 hours of use, did countless oil changes myself and never had a problem as described in the OP.

I believe it can happen if say one takes a gallon jug and tips it into the fill point. However, I don’t do that and I do pull the dipstick out like the service bulletin says to do.
