I'm a surgeon.

5 years of residency and our exams are something that only other surgeons understand. Having said that, I've never been shot at.....

I too am part of a group ... I have my PHD ... have been shot at ... Once.

Surgeon? I'm impressed! Both my sister and mother-in-law are RN's. My sister has commented regarding the extensive education and training required by such a goal.

I think this is a very neat thead! I commented once that I hope the originator of this thread, westbrooklawn from NC, doesn't feel this has been hi-jacked or something. If he's still reading, I hope he recognizes the vast array of even careers that is represented here and greatly responsible to some degree for TBN personalities.

westbrooklawn....if you are seeing this. Thanks:drink:

As I said, awesome!

Care to explain being shot at? Military/Security, perhaps something ominous?

Or tell me to shut up if I'm being nosey....I promise it will not initiate you being shot at again.:)

I ran across the following link this morning on a defense related web page. The link is to an article written by SLA Marshal who was a US Army historian and well regarded. The article was published in 1960 and somehow has been posted on the web. :) It is about the first wave who landed at Omaha beach. If the other landings on D Day had been like what happened at Omaha I do not know if the D Day invasion would have been a success.

First Wave at Omaha Beach - 60.11.

You left one out...

The only good Marine is a submarine.

:) :)

Just kidding, of course!

Now that's awesome! Just when I thought I've heard all the good ones...there's another one to show up!

Impolite army sgt. and clueless squad ! Based on the Sgt. and squad leaders conduct it should not surprise you that his squad probably felt he got what he deserved. It would be a dangerous mistake to assume all Army Squads or Squad leaders would react the same way...;)

By the way as a side note you posted > " A marine can do wrong, but a marine will correct." I am keeping in mind the saying that there are no former Marines...once a Marine, always a Marine..With that in mind I have a tool box in my shop right now with the US Marine decal on it loaded with a set of sockets and other tools left behind by a Marine tenant of mine that was also a local police officer ..he beat his wife, trashed the house I rented to him and left a total mess..He never corrected and I had to sue him to recover damages..he left the state to avoid coming to court...I'm just saying....

Like any group, there are bad apples..
We had a wife beater in one of my units...
he moved into the barracks and fell down the stairs a few times....

I'm sorry you got such a bad apple....

We had similar incident, a guy who got caught stealing when we were in open barracks...he uh, went thru the second story window!

Never did steal again! Within a year, dishonorably discharged

I know what you mean and it's true but whether the Army , Marines or any branch one bad apple can't ever spoil the whole bunch...Marines are OK with me and I have always felt the Coast Guard did not get near the respect they deserve...any of you Coast Guard Members out there...

I'll second that!

Remember, this is in fun only..atleast from my point of view. As I said before, we'd be screwed as a nation, as a people, if we were missing any of these specialists.

God bless our Military....sums it up best :drink:

I was in the USCG from 1965-1969. I agree and paraphrasing Rodney Dangerfield, "We get no respect.":)

IIRC, there's at least one other member who was (or is) in the the Coast Guard.

I've come to rely on the advice that I get from everyone on here. I've saved thousands of dollars on projects because of TBN and the great people on here!!!!!!

If I want to start a project, or find out about something, this is where I go to post a question.

Thank you everyone,
Eddie

ditto that for sure.... heck.. if I run across something i'm unfamiliar with.. usually a quick post to tbn nets 5-10 hits with half of them being the exact info I needed to proceede..

gotta love it.

I have not made it to any of the TBN get togethers.

I always wonder what everyone is like away from the computer. Ie, All of us type different than we talk, and there is no personal inflection on a keyboard. By that, I mean the subtle nuances of voice, facial expression ect.

I have met a couple people in person from another board, and we have been good friends since. But, that was before the WWW. We met back before Windows, and GUI's. In the mid 80's, we had email digests. Back then, the Home Brew Digest was just that, a once a day email digest.

i hang out at a couple other sites and while at shows and such i have met in person say.. 6 people that I met from tractor sites. always nice to put a face to a name.
