Tap for a lubrication fitting

I'm adding a couple of lube fittings to the front brackets on my JD 62 D mowing deck. I have the fitting, part #JD7844 but I can't find the size, I want to get the tap right, can anyone pont me in the right direction?

Sounds like you need a thread guage, or a pair of calipers to measure it?

I hope this helps. I assume it is not a meteric fitting. Most comon zerks have the 1/4-28 bolt thread or 1/8-27 pipe threads.
