Yes and no, we have one at work, that was a similar example. You touch the little round knob on the end into the end of a spinning shaft and it gives RPM. Or you can put a little wheel on it and lay that against a moving surface (like a conveyor belt) and it gives travel rate (ft/min for example)
They are a little spendy, that's why I was wondering if you knew anyone who had access to one.............

It's just not that critical, 2200-2300rpm should work fine.
