Tachometer for BX2200

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, and new to ownership of a tractor. I recently purchased a used BX2200 with a bucket, MM 54" mower, and real balast box. I'm learning so much from this forum, so thanks for that.

Here's my question, Has anyone ever installed a tachomenter on the BX? I feel like I'm operating blind when running my mower because I don't know at what RPM the motor is running. A friend of mine has a JD and it has a tach on the dash with a indicator for the 'best' rpm when running the mower.

Maybe I'm being rediculous about this, but I have to think there's an optimal RPM for the mower, and I'd like to find it and repeat it each time I cut my grass. Suggestions?

One popular model is the Tiny-Tach. If you search you should find some good threads on them...

In thick grass when mowing I put the throttle wide open, back off a little when it is thinner or near rocks. It is made to run wide open though.

Dave is correct. Just a little bit under full throttle will give you 540 rpm on the pto. I once consdered putting a tach on my BX23, but I never did do anything about it. In time I learned to listen to the tractor. If it sounds like I need a little more throttle I give it a little. But if I need 540 pto rpm, I run it just about full throttle.

Agree with the others; did this on my BX2200 and rarely even bother looking at the tach on my BX2660.

DTL-6 will be the correct part if you decide to use the TinyTach, and of course it is the more expensive one.

I have a TinyTach, NEVER look at it, listen to the engine, it will tell you when it needs more. I mow with the throttle wide open, and just about everything else too including the tiller, snowblower, chipper, etc etc.
