Do any of you have a background in T.V. repair? I have a 27" Panasonic that is 5 years old. Great picture but the sound has suddenly quit. Can't hear a peep. Was wondering what typically goes on these units and what I might be looking at with regard to repair costs. Thanks in advance...

That sounds familiar. I've got a 27" Panasonic that is 5 years old that is acting up. Just recently replaced it with a 60" Hitachi LCD Projection. I had someone tell me (the guy that came to fix the 60" Panasonic project that we first bought and ended up taking back) that the vertical sync was loose on the Panasonic causing our problem. I've soldered everything in it, but it seems as though I'm still have a problem with the front AV jacks. If the picture goes out now I can push on them and it'll come back on. I've also created a little problem with my soldering. Now anytime the TV displays any info (time, volume, channel) on the TV we won't have sound, as soon as that goes off sound is fine. I thinks me has something touchin' /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It is supposed to rain the next couple of nights so I might try another approach at fixin' as I like playing the Playstation2 on it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Otherwise, with everything changing in the TV world, I don't think it is worth getting fixed. Heck you can go to Wally World and get new ones for <$200. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - that is both good and bad all at the same time.

I tried to get a similar situation fixed on a 25" Zenith I have, and it was almost as expensive for the shop to just open the TV than it was to buy a new one. Add parts and lobor... Now I have a new and much better 27" RCA for $175.

Minimum charge was something like $150! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I've got 2 TV's in the living room that don't work.. an Hitachi UltraVision.. I think the power relay went bad. And a brand new 27 inch Panasonic(DVD,VHS combo) I bought as an Xmas present for my fiance from Amazon. It was delivered w/ an obvious corner dented on the box(I had authorized delivery w/out signature.. the TV ended up having a crack in the plastic). Called Amazon 3 times on their unpublished Customer Service number.. twice they said they would take care of it.. then they followed w/ emails saying.. sorry.. we don't refund on "such-such" size TV's. I said that's fine.. I don't want a refund.. I want a replacement TV. It went on & on and I ended up disputing the charge w/ my CC company.. they removed the charge. Of course the Panasonic worked for a couple weeks before it stopped working.. just need a truck to haul both to a repair shop.

My fiance said I got off pretty cheaply for her Xmas present.. money wise yes.. but the time & fustration dealing w/ Amazon cost me more.

In this neighborhood we would go find a TV with no picture but good sound and stack 'em...problem solved! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

LOL. For some reason that reminds me of Fred Sanford.

Today it's usually cheaper to just buy new unless there is a sentimental value attached to it.
