Feel a little lucky, in my hick town the steel supplyer has never heard of it, and could not get it if you could afford it.

actually, that's $4.44/Lbs, 3/4" plate is 30 lbs to the square foot. for custom cut, t-1 plate, i'm not suprised. most steels have more then doubled in the last 12 month's, anything custom, or anything other then mild, has gone even more.

currently, we are selling cold rolled round, under 1 1/4" for $2/lbs to give you an idea.

guys, just be glad your not in the business of metal working /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Two weeks ago I was checking on pricing for plate and beams. Tread or diamond plate, $.62 lb, H or I beams $.45 lb., two inch (2 3/8) schedule forty fence pipe black $1.45 per foot. The difference there was one supplier had .154 wall and the other had .204 wall. My schedule forty galvanized two inch (2 3/8) import was $1.85 a foot. Compare that to a year ago when it was $1.25 a foot /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif and the fence pipe was about $.85. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Fifty eight inch V Mesh was $237.00 for 165 feet a year ago. It's now over three hundred. But then look at fuel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The original post mentioned 2 pieces x 15 x 36 x 3/4 = $500.

Sounds like we need to start scavenging the junkyards when we need steel.

I ordered an new 4' bush hog yesterday. It cost $100 more than the one I bought 18 months ago, weighs 560 pounds. That's about 0.18 per pound increase.

I don't know if anyone is interested but I have some nice D2 steel bars that I got from work that I'll sell really cheap if anyone needs them for a project.

They are about 3-4' long, 3" wide and 1/2" thick.

Grabbed them out of the scrap pile, but don't have any projects for them (that I can think of yet!).

How many do you have and what do you want for them ? I'm going to be down in the Northern VA area next week working - if you are not too far I could drive by and pick them up.

I have 10 bars that measure 40" X 2" X 1/2". I really don't know about price, is $20 a bar fair?

Watch yourself driving in VA. I don't know if you've read my post in the "rural living" section, but the cops down there are really serious about the speed limit!
