My subsoiler did not dig deep enough soooo. I added some weights. To attach & easily remove them I added a hook to the back of the subsoiler.

With the weights attached. As you can see they are barbell weights - 25lbs each.

Last pic. I like this mod because it was quick & easy & allows the weights to be simply removed & added. The subsoiler now burries itself all the way to the drawbar.

50 pounds did the trick? When I hear add weight, man I think 200# or so. Piece of RR track. hehe

One other trick to getting them to dig deep enough is to shorten the top link as it is dropped. As yours shows, when the 3pt arms drop the subsoiler tooth is pretty parallel to the cutting path (horizontal) when at a depth of about 8-10 inches. That means the tooth itself will not be pulling itself deeper, thus the need for weights.

I connect a chain between the subsoiler and the drawbar to pull on the lower shank at a point below the 3pt arm pins. This allows me to disconnect the top link, and makes for a more stable pull.

Just a different way to skin the 'cat' so to speak. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My subsoiler goes deep enough to dig up my telephone cable three times so far. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif This last time, the rototiller ripped it up, so I'm blaiming it on the phone company.
