Only 20 bucks difference between KK at TSC or a Fred Cain S-2. Which would I be better off with? Both are local purchases so shipping is not a consideration.

I do notice that the KK penetrates 14" and the FC is 18".

Hopefully I can get a few quick answers and I will go buy one of them today.

BTW, this will be used behind a Case 485 (53hp).

thanks,
Keith

I've never heard of Fred Cain. I bought a KK subsoiler at TSC. I've only used it a few times, but when I did, it worked fine with no problems. The depth has been adequate for what I have done with it, but for an extra $20, I would go with the other unit, if it is built a least as well as the KK (never thought I'd write those words /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif). You might need the extra inches some day.

I have Fred Cain (or is it Crain?) Agri-Cutter 104, a 4' rotary cutter and it's been nothing short of awesome. Well built, tougher than nails and a great deal cheaper than a Bush Hog.

As far as sub soilers, I'd bet the FC are built as well or better than any other on the market in the size range and $20 is $20.
I'd have to go with the FC base on my experience with the rotary cutter?

I have both now. I like the design of the FC (who I had never heard of until yesterday) better. One thing it has is a shear bolt so if you get hung up it will sheer and the beam will pivot up. If it would become a problem then I could put it a harder bolt or just weld it in place, BUT...I see this as an advantage and will use it as designed. The beam measures 3/4" x 6". The KK measures 1" x 4". I think the extra 2" wide would be more structurally sound even if you give up 1/4" width. Am I right?

I am not doggin' the KK I just think the FC would do better for me. I'll be taking the KK back today.

I'll try to post a few pics of it today being alot of folks have never heard of Fred Cain.

thanks for the replies,
Keith

Here are the specs on the FC. I don't think he has a web site.

Looks good, but how do you get it to dig with the point on the top? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Ken,
It sure is a small world after all. I do appreciate your faxing the info. I was planning on ordering the FC but a local dealer had one for 168.00 so I bought it local to save shipping (and help out the local guy).

thanks,
Keith
