Yes, I think cold rolled. I am not really savvy on all of the different types of steel (guess I should be).

Just some pix of the weekend welding. Going slow so I don't make a mistake. Added some gussets to the mounting plate for rigidity but did not get pix of those. Today motor mount and trying to get it all to fit together.

Oh, cut a hole with my plasma cutter. 1st one. Not so bad...

Oh, got my wheel from the machine shop.

On your print in post #1, the hole pairs are every 60 degrees (although on 3 different radii). In your picture of the machined wheel, that even spacing appears to have been abandoned.

Edit- forgot to mention that the version on the print seemed to have some logic in the progression of tooth location from the blade center, probably related to direction of rotation too. That seems to have been abandoned on the actual part as well.

We added additional set of teeth as the wheel got bigger. In consulting With Green Teeth we put teeth at the same Radius (except one set is straight and one set is bent) 90 degrees apart. We then set two sets of teeth 30 degrees for and aft of the angled teeth at reduced Radius.

Good eye...

IT IS DONE... Well, kinda done, needs paint, a bit of touch up welding, need to cut the shaft up but in principal IT IS DONE...

And....

It works. I am completely and utterly amazed at myself. It friggin works. And it works good. I have to say this system was nothing but angst for me, not having any clear plan to go off of.

The truth, of course, will be in the long haul. But initially I put an 15" cherry and a 12" apple under the level of my mower, each took about 5 minutes max....

Problems. I probably should have made the cutter further out from the tractor. It is hard to see the wheel. I am ending up leaning out of the cab and looking under the device.

As I have only 10 minutes of actual operation, I am sure I will develop a system. Seeing forward close to the tractor has been a small issue with the power trac. Not sure how a bobcat is to see out of....

Anyway, My wife shot some video, but it was from a distance and not so good. Maybe tomorrow I will put a camera in the grass and see what I get.

nice job, now I have a 48" diameter Chinese Elm stump that you can try it out on if you want

Looks good! Would love to see a video. I'm curious how much loading effects hydro motor. 800 rpm is moving!

I like the plane of the wheel. If it fails it will fail in a safe direction. Are you going to trim the shaft off the front?

Yeah, there is a lot of things left to do. I need to trim the front shaft down, but wanted to wait until I was sure about the motor / machine combo in case I had to move stuff around. I also need to build a cover over top of the wheel (not much debris but some comes up).

The interesting thing is the Greenteeth. I was expecting chips and lots of them. Instead I have sawdust. It makes for one heck of a mess if the wind is blowing the wrong way. i was coated last night in wood dust. I am thinking about some sort of flap to keep the debris down.

I'm impressed with your machine! Good job!

Carl,

What is the number stamped on the teeth? 5, OR 7, OR 9

You should be getting chips or shredded material.

Do you have a hyd gage in the circuit to see the running pressure.

I recomputed the 4.6 cu in hyd motor HP, and it came out to about 20.

Do the rpms hold steady as you sweep across the stump?

When can we see the video?

Hmmmm. It is the 700 Lo Pro series. I do have a guage, but have not put it into series yet. I got 37HP at 3000PSI and 18GPM. I don't run the engine full tilt but...

So it was my first time. Past two days we have had rain. My plan is for tomorrow to get out and continue playing. Will get the camera out as well.

Looks like he cut across the end of the grain on top of the stumps. Only way a small stump grinder will make chips is if you attack them from the side and cut with the grain.

Thanks mr he. Just found out I was skimming the tops and I can take a big bite with this. Walnut stump was gone quick tonight. Tomorrow will video some maple stumps

Video of the bad boy in action. Alder stump maybe 6 months old. Tree was in bad shape to begin with.

Next week I cut the shaft down and put on a protective cover and flap.

Oh, I added a second quick attach plate. This allows me to turn the machine sideways (or normal for most grinders) and I can trench with it. Trench runs about 10" deep, problem is the dirt disappears, so no way to cover it up.

Looks good! RPM doesnt seem to slow.

I'm getting the inspiration to build my own this winter... 3pt hitch mounted, with the 100hp gearbox of an old straw chopper. What teeth did you use, are they universal (brandless) or specifically for a brand of cutter ?
