I've seen old backhoe buckets for $100 or less. Tempted to build a stump bucket out of one. Taking out small trees with one on loader is faster than backhoe and much easier since your pushing the tree over.

Sounds like a good idea to me, I dare you to!!

Everyone must have seen your post and ran out to build one. I was thinking of this last week and looked at a lot of backhoe buckets for sale, they all wanted a lot of money because of this new market you created!! I was speaking to my Bobcat dealer yesterday and he has a used Bobcat Digger Bucket on his lot that came in with a traded skid steer. When I hear back on the price next week I think I will pull the trigger on that and give it a try. It can dig moving forward and can also dig by back dragging. Everything is relative. The backhoe that fits my CT2025 would dig much better that my FEL with a digger. However, my FEL has much more breakout force than the backhoe that fits a JD 1025R and lots of people use those quite happily. If I can manage 60% of the jobs I want to be able to do at less than 10% of the price, I'll put that in the win column.

The Op never came back with pictures, hope his project turned out satisfactory

I plan to. I made the bucket part. Just finishing up on some welds on that.
Have to configure how I want to mount it on the quick hitch plate.
Would like the bucket to be removable in case I want the plate to mount something else to.
That will involve angle and channel iron , drilling and bolting and then welding this mess to the plate.
Winter involved a whole bunch of other stuff that I had to tend to.
