I am going to try and run around the stump/tree with my subsoiler first to cut any roots I can before digging with the stump bucket and see how this works. I will not be able to get as close initially, but it is a relatively easy thing to do first. Then go to work with the CID stump bucket as required.

I hope you folks have better luck on roots with the sub-soiler than I did. Yes you can twist-off a rock shaft and have to replace it. (Don't ask me how I know, ok? :ashamed: .. may have been cracked already?)
btw: A 'SawZall' run off a small generator will cut a handful of roots quicker than you can say 'time for a new bar & chain'. IIRC the blades are much cheaper than chains and change out more quickly, too. (YMMV but try before you hammer your Stihl. 6 or 10 tpi works for me to 4" or so. :2cents

It 'rocks' by actuating the lift piston under the seat and rotates to raise the lift arms linked to 3PH's lower arms. I had cruised into some big roots with the sub-soiler hoping they'd snap and my front end would jump a bit whenever one really 'anchored' me. Something hadda give, and somehow something did. :banghead:
It sounds like this relates to the draft control then and I will have to be more cautious when using my ROBB for things such as tearing out large grape vines, which the larger ones would anchor me and stop the tractor dead. I never thought about actually breaking something doing this. Disturbing that something substantial on a tractor would break like this, as my wheels spin in the dirt long before I thought enough stress had built up to damage anything.

Don't have any pictures of roots, so here is the largest limb, cut with the 12" blade.
It measured 9"
