After sliding around all winter I'm doing some serious shopping for tire chains. I like the looks of the studded chains. The best I have looked at so far is Aquiline Talons. I have also read that Norse chains are good but can't find any good links on Norse chains. Any tire chain help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the links. They don't have prices or sizes on the USA Discount Generator website for chains so I emailed them for a quote. The Trygg chains are pretty impressive. A lot better looking than the Aquiline chains. And they look very expensive. I'm willing to spend some serious money on chains. Been a rough winter.

You might want to think twice about studded chains if you plan on driving on concrete or asphalt. They will leave permanent marks.

USA Discount Generators is my site - i just post my tractor stuff there. WE do not carry the chains, just standby and portable generators, gas portable winches, and Wood Doctor wood boilers. But the page has links to where i bought mine.

I do appreciate the advise. I am aware of the possible damage to concrete and asphalt. I have an all gravel driveway (800 ft).

whistlepig- got the chains for my B7800 with R4 tires from tirechains.com. I went with the v-bar style-excellent on ice on my 600 foot sloped driveway. Not too expensive, either. Regards, Mike

Tirechains . com are a good company to deal with. They are in Pa so they are not that far from you. You could pick them up in person if you were in the area. I got the standard 2-LINK Ladders for my Farmall and they work great on my driveway that is anything but flat. You could get these, ladder  v bar but last time I was in Ohio it looked pretty flat to me.

I have a set of ladder V bars from tireChains on my B26 and they are awesome. I have a gravel hill that's quite sloped and the first time I tried blowing snow on the hill I was really afraid I'd get stuck, not only on the hill but also with a hefty tow bill.

Not a problem, they just dug right in. I haven't tried driving down the hill though as I want all the weight I can on those rear wheels. They will do a number on concrete or asphalt so be careful. I laid down 1/4" plywood on my shed floor as the chains dig right in and will damage any floor surface.

The chains were a bit pricey with the duties and brokers's fees (I live in Canada) but well worth the price.

Last thing, you probably don't want to put chains on your front wheels. Common wisdom is you can break your front diff running chains front and back. The front wheels can move at a different speed than the rear one in 4WD and this can cause excessive strain on the diff.

I tried conventional chains first then went to studded and saw a significant improvment when plowing. The plow did not throw the front of the tractor to the side as much when the plow was angled and pushing back banks. But my tractor has a lighter front end than most and i am running duals on all 4 wheels.

Do you think these studded/v-bar chains will tear up my concrete floor when I park the tractor in the garage?

i have not had any problems but i do not spin the tires in my barn. 85% of the time, i also put down long osb strips where the tires go. Not sure if that is necessary.

You don't have to spin 'em for them to do damage to a concrete floor. I back mine into my garage very slowly, and over the years they have pitted my floor substantially. I keep saying I'm gonna put plywood or rubber mats down, but never seem to get around to it. Definitely consider protecting your floor if you get the v-bars. Regards, Mike

Thanks. That's good to know before buying the chains. Maybe non studded chains would hurt the floor also but not near as bad.

My tractor has not caused any damage in 2 years with studded chains but i have duals on all 4 wheels so the weight footprint of my tractor is pretty low.
