My neighbor just called me with a problem with his 1980+/- JD750. He went to start it up for the 1st time in close to a year and as soon as he started it it went to full power. When he finally got it to shut off (by running out of fuel) he inspected the throttle linkages and everthing appears to be working correctly. He started it up again and the same thing happened. This time he had to run into something to get it to shut off since the fuel cutoff was stuck.

Any ideas as to why it is running at full power and any suggestions as to how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

If nothing is found sticking in the linkages, then it's in the injector pump.

A soft rap with a rubber mallet on the side of the pump might dislodge the stuck rack. It only work once out of the 3 stuck pumps I've worked on, the other two I had to disassemble, clean and reassemble.

If you have never done any injector pump work before, get a shop manual or somebody that knows what they're doing.
Working on a injector pump is not to be taken lightly.
