because steam evaporates and that is what that stuff done.if it would have been smoke it would have hung around but it evaporated as soon as it reached about a foot high. look at the film. smoke does look like steam your right but smoke will go up to the tree tops but not steam.

Tommy how do you know it wasn't smoke? Last I knew smoke could look very much like steam... It doesn't have to short out either it could just be over stressed...

My bet is on the winch getting hot and boiling off the water that had gotten on it, thus producing steam....

I would say double lining the winch with a snatch block would have helped alot.

Just listen to how the dummy was riving his engine so hard and so long......i've owned and ran a wrecker service all my life and riving that engine faster than your winch is pulling isn't gonna get you nowhere!!! A little electric winch will just quit on you when it's overloaded but i've never seen em smoke like that....i could have swore i heard the engine knocking when it was idleing after they got out......my money is on the engine smoking not the winch......double line it, give it just enough gas to help your winch and don't burn up a high dollar toy.

thats what i said in my earlier post that engine didn't dound to good. it was ieghter from him reving it up or it was just plain old over heating from the mudd surounding the engine and getting it hotter than it should have been. plus he probable boiled he water out the radiator. but i'm with you on this one i don't think it's the winch i think it's the engine or radiator. when i get into a hole and i see i can't get out my rull of thumb is half throttle and spin the tires for about 30 seconds and in that 30 seconds if you don't move at all pull out the winch cable.it's not worth breakin a axle spinnin the big tires trying to get out of a hole when you got a winch for that very purpose. i know some say 30 second is not enough time but go outside get in your utv and sit down with a stop watch and hold the gas peddle down at half throttle for 30 seconds it's gonna seem like a long time then. i posted a video of my buddy with his rhino one day man he tried for like 10 minutes to get out of a hole before he gave up and let me pull him out he was grinding gears and everything "das how you break things"
