I need a pto driven auger that can access a 36" space. This would save me tons of labor costs. I'm planting 1,000+ grapes in-between vines of an established vineyard. The trellis system, which I can't remove, is a quadrilateral arrangement 36 inches off the ground and 18" wide. I only need a hole 12-16 inches deep and 12 inches in diameter. My Howse post hole digger run by a Kubota L2550 would do the job if the auger was shorter. I've done a quick search but haven't found anything commercially available. I'm looking at fabricating something and hoping for some suggestions.
Thanks for the help.

Have you looked at the augers from the smaller manual post hole augers and making an adapter to fit? The old 2 man style catch and break your arm! Kind

I just measured a bit for a Groundhog auger, it's 36". It might be worthwhile to buy one and cut it down and put the correct collar on for the pto drive. A specialty 14-16" bit can save a lot of time in positioning on 1000+ holes, and can be part of the bid.

mini skid steer unit, try your local rental yard and see if they can let you rent just the bit.

Cut your 12" auger down. I just cut one up to make a 12" auger reach a true 48" in depth. Fairly easy to do. Cut the spiral off and then shorten the drive shaft and reweld.

I think that makes the most sense. It will be a nice rainy day project.
