That's probably what I will do before it's over with.
But i hate to throw the old one out if it's some simple thing.

LBrown- please let us --at least me-- know what was the final diagnosis on the machine, if that's possible- thanks! I'm dying with curiosity.

Right now I've got a 2-stroke mower that's giving me trouble, but I'll have to wait a bit to tear it apart to find out what's really wrong. I just can't stand not knowing, even if it's junk!:laughing:

Been thinking of taking it to the local John Deere dealer here that sells Stihl and telling them if they can fix it I'll buy a new trimmer from them .
Would be a good way to find out if their service department is any good wouldn't it?
After all who wants to buy one if they don't know how to fix one.

Don't throw it out. Trade it in for a new one.

Take it to the Stihl dealer and let him assess what it is worth. Then deal on a new one.

But the problem sounds to me like a clogged muffler and/or a deteriorated fuel pickup line.

Have you put fuel in the cylinder then put plug back in to try to get some action (firing)?

My Stihl just keeps going and going. But I don't put any fuel in with ethanol in it. That seems to help.

I had a stihl hedge trimmer with the same problem... turned out to be a coil which they replaced under warranty even though it was over 1 year old (coil warranty was longer than rest of unit)... the plug was showing a spark, but it was weak. I've also had 2 cycle equipment which was running too lean (somehow the hired help can't hear that problem although it is obvious to me)... long story short, the pistons were scored and lack of compression was the problem.
