Tractor
John Deere X-350
I store my John Deere X-350 in an unheated, non-electricfied out building. I do not want to remove the battery from the tractor, I disconnected the
positive battery cable. Did I do the correct cable or should I have disconnected the ground cable? Does it make a difference?

Please advise.

Thank you!

Electrically it doesn't make a difference, but the safest thing to do is disconnect the negative cable. When you mess with the positive cable with the negative connected, any tool contact with the tractor case is a direct short.

Why disconnect the battery?

I change the oil, sharpen/replace the blades, grease every fitting and clean the deck of my mower before storing it for the winter. 40 years and I've never disconnected the battery for the winter.

Take away the minus cable first. Upon reinstalling add the plus cable first.
Might as well remove the battery, you’re halfway there. Store it in the basement on a 1 amp maintainer. Prevents freezing, draining the charge and adds a few years life…🥴

Do you leave in cold weather region,if not I wouldn't disconnect.

Why disconnect the battery?
Because if there is ANY parasitic draw, it will kill the battery. I have NEGATIVE disconnects on m y tractors and In use them all the time. A flooded cell battery not hooked up and fully charged looses about 5% of it's total charge per month.
