Which begs the question... can you take your ignition switch to a locksmith, have him change the guts around and get a new "custom" key cut? Won't stop a theft, but would make it a little more of a pain for the thief.

Ian

Most tractor or any other construction equipment keys are pretty universal. And they aren't really re-key-able. But you can fairly easily replace the ignition switch with one that has a "unique" key.

You could also replace the switch with a programmable number pad and a starter button. Definitely want to consider that on a $100,000 gang plow hauler. AND include Lojack for it.

Another trick is what they do for ambulances and fire trucks; put a second switch (usually a rocker switch, not a key) in that turns the power on and off for the entire unit. Most people, including thieves, can't figure out why the darn thing won't turn over with the ignition key. Rocker switch is usually behind the ambulance seat; but you could locate it under the hood of the tractor.

Got buddy who did this to his Mustang. Thieves dont like wasting time trying to figure out why something dont work.. They'll just move to the next vehicle.

Hate that this happened to you. You may want to call the Desoto County Sheriff's Dept. in Mississippi. This is where I live and just a couple of weeks ago a LoJack warning system was activated in the Sheriff Dept's helicopter as it flew over a farm here. LoJack had installed the transceiver on the helicopter for free just a couple of weeks prior to that and it paid off. They found a D5 dozer that had been stolen in GA and there was other equipment found on site too.
