I hope that the police have more accurate information than that news group did. The JD 9220 doesn't have 900 hp, it has 325 hp. The JD 7920 doesn't have 700 hp; it has 170 hp. Hope that they catch them.

No my loss just a local news story.
Yes I noticed the HP issues as well. THe sheriff being interviewed was the one that said 900hp.

Is kind of amazing that someone was able to make off with something that big and no one noticed. I could see it hapening during planting and harvest season where tractors are on the roads all hours but in winter when they are not used that often.

It makes perfect sense.

Anything with 900 HP is just gonna be a big blur leaving town. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My neighbor works for JD and told me today that both tractors have been recovered.

Someone once told me %90 of the tractors stolen from dealerships were inside jobs ie the dealership was behind it.

I've heard similar stories before. I used to lease a buliding from a lawn and garden dealer. He was accused of this activity. The business in a different building beside me told me they parked trailer loads of lawn and garden equipment in the building during the night, then reported it stolen the next day.

I don't know if any of it's true.

I never liked the idea of titleing lawn mowers, tractors, snowmobiles, ATV's, etc... but I think it would help some of the theft and fraud including internet fraud. The items we see on internet auctions that are many times fraud are big ticket items that don't carry titles.

so strange to come across this post, as a friend of mine and my wife's family were just talking about this the other evening - topic brought up as i was inquiring about insurance coverage for the new 2305.

the larger of the two stolen pieces of machinery were found by a local news helicopter as they were on their way to cover another story. they thought it strange for such a large piece of machinery to be sitting 'out between two hills' during that time of year. it was brought up later & another individual recalled the theft....and viola!

this friend of mine family owns a large excavating/tool rental company in central ohio. they have machinery stolen/tampered with frequently. i thought surely it would be easy to track and locate, but he disagreed. he said if you could get it out of state (and believe me, he said, there are a lot of people who know how to get just about anywhere using tree/field lines and very out-of-the-way routes.) it would be easy to sell a 70K piece of machinery for 25K and it'd be gone for good!

just a little more input on this story.
