How much is the 6 pak?

I dont use their oil but I am getting ready to get some stihl stuff pretty soon. 200T, mini tiller and backpack blower maybe.

Please don't say you bought a 290 farm boss. All these chainsaw experts will let you know what a piece of sh*t it is. It's too heavy, its not powerful enough, it's not a professional saw, on and on......

Are you f***ing serious?

The MS-290 Farm Boss is OK for a homeowner saw, and it's Stihl's most popular model. But there are better choices in Stihl's lineup for pro use -- for example, you can get the same power, better construction, lighter weight, lower fuel use, and better emissions in the MS-261. But it's also another $200!

I bought a Stihl weed eater last year and the dealer extended the warranty by doubling it also when I bought their oil.

You really cannot go by "what experts say" because everyone comes from a different set of use criteria. The 290 can be a dandy saw for a home owner especially at its price point. Does Stihl make a better saw? sure they do. Will this saw more than suffice for the average guy? of course it will. Because of its use point, it does not make this saw a pos in any sense of the word.

I have noticed, however, that the modern Stihl products do not have the longevity of the old Stihls (in the smaller sized models). I've switched to Echo for small sized chainsaws.

My 026 runs and runs. Never a problem. I had a Stihl 180 for light work. It always had a flooding problem and then one summer, it wouldn't start. Took it in, and they informed me the cylinder was bad. It was a 3 year old chainsaw with only a half dozen or so tanksful of fuel through it. I went back to my old (as in 12 year old) Echo CS3000 and tuned it up. Same thing happened with a Stihl weed trimmer.

I run the same mix in all my 2 strokes (all within the manual specs) and have to think that the smaller Stihls don't have the engineering and manufacturing that the older models (and likely the larger models still have).

Who you calling sarcastic? The 290 is a sissy saw and a real man wouldn't own one.

Good try . Had me fooled the first time but now your gig is up (or maybe not to the uninformed)

The 290 is fine. This is a picture of a morning worth of felling, delimbing, and bucking a stand of dead and diseased mature Loblolly pines. Sure it's a bit heavy and could be a bit more powerful but I'll keep the extra $200. Thanks.

IIRC I think the 6 pack of HP Ultra oil is about $20 or so.. well worth the cost to get the double warranty considering you need the oil anyway..

REMEMBER - the oil has to be shown on the same receipt as the equipment to get the double warranty

I'm just thinking on a leaf blower, tiller 2 year warranty = 4 years :D
200T Chainsaw 1 year goes to 2 years.

Trimmers and Brushcutters, Clearing Saws, Edgers, Blowers and Sprayers, Hedge Trimmers, Pole Pruners, KM Series, Wet/Dry Vacuums and MM Series
2 years

I will just use the stihl oil for testing stuff after I work on them. I buy Klotz Original TechniPlate 100% synthetic by the qt or gal cases.

Now I find out. Just got a replacement MS460 and a gallon of Ultra oil. I guess that does not qualify. Wish the dealer had told me.

sounds like you are basing your opinion on just one example...and that from an example that had hardly any use. Scored cylinder after that little use is an almost sure example of 'straight gasing'.

For some reason a lot of dealers dont tell you around the double warranty for some reason.. That is based on what ppl have posted (like you) on here and a few other forums
