Hey I have a Stihl FS460 forestry saw. I was cutting down some trees today when the blade stopped spinning, the engine would rev as normal. I took the part that the blade attaches to off the shaft, I couldn't see anything wrong except for the shaft was in too far. The shaft was not meshing into the pinion gear in the head so I pulled the shaft out some and put it back together. It seems to work ok now. My question is should I be able the pull the shaft out and it will stop, how is it attached to the clutch?

Not sure I understand your generic description of the problem. In order of what comes off, would be clip, washer, rim sprocket, clutch drum, and needle bearing. The clutch assembly threads onto the crankshaft (left hand thread). Crank has worm gearing to spin oil pump.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try to explain it better. I removed the gear box head and found the drive tube to be up the shaft to far, not allowing it to mesh with the gear. I pulled the drive tube down some but not much as I am not sure if it will stop or come out of the clutch. It is meshing with the gears now as the blade will spin but I would like to know the drive tube is in the gear all the way. Im not certain but could you be talking about a chain saw, I'm working on a forestry/spacing/clearing saw.
