So last week I was wrestling more and more over the space of 5 minutes with the steering wheel of the 6500 so I could finish off some important work, when suddenly no response at all. The steering oil level was fine, the tractor 300 hours and 5 years old.
My friend and I crack the steering pump and the hydraulic pump that runs it. The female connector cylinder socket (which matches up the male splines from both pumps) is stripped bare on the steering pump side! Please see attached photo (22mm long by 22mm dia or 7/8")
Has anyone ever seen this happen? The Australian dealer here says he's never seen the part before when I showed it to him and recommended buying a new pump for a $1,000! The part can be machined for $200.
Would welcome any suggestions/comments, thanks in advance.
