Steering problem with JD650

I am going to buy a 1981 JD 650 4WD from my Brother-in-Law. It has power steering and when you turn the steering wheel, the engine bogs down considerably. Also, the wheels turn much further to the left than they do to the right. Any body out there seen this problem and offer help? My search of the forums didn't turn up any thing like this.

Check to make sure the hydraulic cylinder isn't bent, as well as any of the steering linkage. That's what it sounds like it could be anyway. I assum the lift works just fine, right? If so, that should be an indication that the hydraulic pump is working fine. One other thing that comes to mind is to see if you can verify that the hydraulic plumbing going to the power steering cylinder was done correctly. That may require a trip to a JD dealer, or maybe a look at the service manual. Let us know what you find.....
