OK guys. I'm having a **** of a time getting the pittman arm off. I got a gear puller tightened down just about as tight as I can get it and it still hasn't moved a fraction. Thinking of trying that hammer puller or maybe using some heat. Any suggestions?

Hit it with a hammer...seriously. While you have a slight load with the puller, a shock will break it free. Uisng this method the pitman arm, ball joints and tie rod ends break free everytime for me.

I think the problem may be that my pullers are not pulling straight. When I tighten them up, the pulling bolt want to kick sideways. I tried the hammer thing and still no luck. I'm going to try to shim my pullers so they are pulling straight.

Well, I've got pullers straight and have just about as much torque on them as my 160lb body can put on them. I have beat on the pittman arm with a hammer an still hav had no luck. I think I'm going to spray some more Blaster on it an let it sit with the tension on - while I try to cool off a little. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

You would be amazed at what a 160 lb body can do with a 4' length of galvanized pipe over the handle of your wrench. I use a 2 footer.

You might consider going to your local auto parts store and renting a pittman arm puller. Usually they make you put down a deposit, then refund the entire amount when you bring it back.

I finally got the pittman arm off using the gear puller. It shot off like a bullet once it finally broke loose. I've got it all back together except strapping the fuel tank down. Those metal band must have shrunk. I'm going to have to use the adjustment nuts to get some more slack in those bands. Thanks everyone for your input.
