steel prices?

has anyone heard anything about steel prices lately? i.e...are they supposed to continue rising?

i am debating on putting up a pole barn either this spring or next spring. im curious on how much more the same building could cost next year.

in our area, the cost has gone up quite a bit from last year to this year. the manufacturers are attributing this to the rise in steel prices.

the 30x50 we are looking at putting up costs about $1400 more than last year because of the steel increase.

Steel prices seem to have leveled off a bit for now, but all that I have read does not indicate any real drop in prices for the forseeable future, and probably moderate increases.
I would say bite the bullet and go ahead with your project, It will probably be somewhat higher next year.

The latest talk downunder is that there will be a world shortage of steel for many years /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif . I would think steel will continue to climb in price so buy now.

Just had lunch with a guy who said he was instructed to get his orders for piping materials in TODAY, which would allow him to get it at the current price level. Sounds like the price is going up again........................chim

It also depends on the steel product. Some material like rebar are only up 400% while steel I beams are up about 800% Concrete is now up from about $70/yard to about $100/yard. I need all of it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Get it done now, because I can see in my crystal ball higher interest rates and inflation coming in the near future. The value of the dollar is falling on the World market, so your pennies will buy less next year than this year. Make sure that you structure your debt in a manageable way so you don't get caught in the cash crunch of owing more than you can comfortably repay. Get the expensive parts done now and do the extras such as electric and water at a later date. If $$$$ is tight, put the doors and windows in last. Just don't fall into the trap of undersizing it or compromising the quality to save a few dollars. Junk...

junkman....i am already planning on doing just that. electric, water, insulation, concrete will occur at a later date.

also, the "shed" has gotten bigger as ive been looking into them, not smaller. i think it should be big enough. (yes i know they can never be too big) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

30x50+ should hold my b7610 quite nicely. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Also include lumber and plywood doubling.....The sooner you buy the less it will cost.
