Starts but quits

I have a Mahindra 2816.

It starts hard then does start but it quits. Kinda smokes more than it used to. Acts like it is plugged up.
I only have 180 hours on it. Nothing has changed and I have never had a problem with it.

I just replaced the air filter and no change.

Any ideas what is going on?

Air leaking into the fuel supply?

Water in the fuel and/or tank will cause this too. If you have a drain at or near the filter, open it and drain fuel into a clear jar. Check to see if there's water at the bottom of the jar.

Diesels need air and fuel.

Lotsa black means really plugged air, or possibly unburnt fuel.

If a diesel is running and stalls, or can't make rpms, check fuel delivery.

try it with the fuel cap off to see if the fuel vent is plugged.
