Starting and Running w/o battery installed

Shouldn't be any issues...

Once did a whole days snow blowing with a dead battery; ran fine till I shut it off and would only click.

Just tape up your positive lead

I wouldn't say having a dead battery installed is the same as no battery. In a cheap lawnmower then fine. In an expensive tractor that gets more high tech every day I wouldn't try it. They no longer condone it in cars because of the electronics, why chance it in a tractor.

A dead or under charged battery is hard on the charging system.

The OP may be able to clear this up; how long are you going to run it?

Not much electronics in a Bseries Kubota!

You need 12v to stop the engine with the key via the stop solenoid so its a crap shoot if it will shut down same with the safety circuit might not work correctly.

I think you supply VDC to the fuel solenoid and leave energized to run, and remove VDC to stop. Should not have to apply VDC to stop. Philip.

I have heard that on the bxs if the fuse blows they will not shut off.

My BX and GR will not shut off without 12V power. The alternator _may_ be able to activate the shut-off solenoid long enough. Don't know.

A _missing_ battery can allow voltage spikes that can damage the alternator diodes and other electronics - or could with older systems.

On the boat we use a device called a "zap stop" to avoid alternator damage if ones idiot brother-in-law switched the battery switch to OFF while the engine was running. It's a big Zener diode that clips the spikes.

Something like that might help in a no battery situation, but far easier to just leave it connected until replaced.
