I got a replacement starter for the same tractor except 2005, from here.

Tommy is a good guy to work with. Ask him about the newer style starter. It is geared differently and spins the engine much more readily. A little more money but worth it.

Thanks for the Referral, yes the QDJ1332A is a reduction type and works a lot better and is sealed a lot better so it will last longer. Either way we have both ,the standard starter is a QD100C3

I don't know if the starter is bad. I'm pretty sure the solenoid is bad though. If I bypass the solenoid the starter spins. If I touch the battery post to the small post on the solenoid it clicks, but does not turn the starter. If I hold a screwdriver to the battery post and the little post, and another screwdriver to the battery post and the other big post, the engine turns over. It also heats up the clamp on my jump starter and turns the spring red hot and bends it. My question is why to all of this. Even why it turned my clamp spring red hot. I only held it for 5 seconds or so. Also, how fast can I get a solenoid?

I ordered a new starter, put fuel in and the bowl was cracked. Ordered a new bowl, put fuel in and the engine started right up. After sitting for 10 years the engine started right up. Now I need a thermostat and some antifreeze to see how long it will run.

Your jumper cable clamp heated up because you were pulling a butload of current thru a thin piece of metal with a small contact area. Thats how heating elements work
