The starter on my T5B, Kohler 20 Magnum turns fine but will not engage the flywheel on cooler days (like below 50F). I can only get it going by placing a heater under/ beside the engine for about an hour. Thoughts?
I've already replaced the battery thinking it was weak.

I'm guessing cold grease and dirt? My machine has a skid plate and I can't even see the starter without removing the heavy plate. Will the engine need to come all the way out to service the starter? I've had it loose before to replace the plastic engine to pump coupling but never had it all the way out. Anyone know a way to flush/lube the bendix gear without pulling the engine.

Thanks.

i would uninstall the starter so it's in a warm shop. Brake Kleen the gear and shaft. then spray it down with a dry lube can. and bench test if a spare source voltage is available.
