There is a link to the new Terms of Service. No way to tell exactly what changed though.

Even though i swore i wouldnt get starlink as my microwave unit was giving me enough download speed….. the trees finally matured enough to start blocking my internet reception.

I went to the dark side and i installed the new gen3 starlink.

Install took about 2 hours, due to running wires. Works great. I get over 180 down and 17 up. On average. I chose eve mount, and 100% unobstructed view of sky. If there are outages, i have not noticed.

But i wanted a guest network and a IoT network separate from my main network. So after about 2 days of messing around, i was finally able to disable starlink wifi and pass it thru to my 3 month old modem. Took alot of geek speek to get it all working, but its working great now. Had to reconfigure shop wifi extension and my wavelink antenna to reach other buildings and barn for my wifi calling that i need for my remote area.

I only wish elons modem had options for a guest network.
Interesting I have the 2nd generation router, I did purchase the ethernet adapter which I plugged into my older netgear router. I now have the choice of which wifi network to connect with either the Starlink or either one of the two netgear wifi's.
It looks like the 3rd generation has the ports to just plug into.

The third generation has Ethernet directly, and has a slightly larger and more powerful antenna, with no motors in the mount. To my way of thinking, the new actual router is also a slight step up in performance, due to slightly reduced latency.

Currently, the base kit is on sale in many areas for $299. I'm fence sitting about buying another just in case, and replacing our current setup with the newer hardware.

All the best,

Peter

They actually have two "standard" kits;
The one is still the motorized self aiming unit with the Gen 2 router which requires the adapter for the Ethernet port,

and then the "newer" standard which you have to aim which has the Gen 3 router with the built in Ethernet ports

Same here. The message implies the changes may be location specific.

Starlink's site is a bit of a morass to navigate in my opinion.
That's their specifications page that includes older hardware. The order page only includes the newer non-pivoting residential and business antennas, plus the mobile and lite versions;

All the best,

Peter

I couldn’t tell what changed in the terms of agreement. They should provide a summary of the changes.

Does it really matter? We're kinda stuck with it unless we want to cancel service. And most folks with Starlink have very few alternatives. Corporations have you by the short hairs and can do what they want, mostly.

Ain’t that the truth.

First thing I do with any service that we have/had is disable the providers router/modem and set them to pass thru. This was the first thing I did to the Starlink as soon as I knew it was working.

I have little faith in the security of the units any service provider provides, especially after seeing how sad security was when we had ATT Fix Wireless. I disable the providers wifi and then pass thru to my router that is setup for two wifi networks. I segregate everything by type of internet access it needs, for instance laptops are on one while network where shared files access is needed and monitoring systems like the solar panels or weather station are on another.
