Fiber, you must be in the big city! :)

Out here there is nothing but satellite or cell service.
Sure, lets not start the who lives the farthest out contest. ;) That's how it was here until this year.

It was done as part of the rural fiber optic development project. I put the main line in on my street, it was pretty cool never thought we would get a good connection like this.

For decades only a dish… no cell and for dish had to take down a number of trees until I got serious with Comcast.

My brother was in negotiations on a 450 home subdivision in the next county and Comcast was at the table eager to get in.

My brother provided these contact info and I got to work as the fiber ran down the county road to a distant subdivision and to the nearby volunteer firehouse and mercantile.

It cost almost 15k to bring in but I got it done.

We signed a contract with Comcast over a year ago and still no service and very little information is available from Comcast. They claim pole permits is the hold up. Got tired waiting and got Starlink mobile as Starlink is not yet available in our area. With Starlink now I usually get around 50 to 80 mps down and at times it will be over 200 mps down much better than Verizon dsl usually around 2 mps down.

I'm happy when I get 2 on my hotspot...

I could not get pole permits so all underground for me.

No noticeable speed changes for me, I haven't bothered running a speed test.
Got to my CA property last night. So I ran a SL speedtest here.. First test since global outage.

About 5am it was 12mbps. ???? Just now it was 160mbps, about 90 minutes later. Makes no sense.

Now I wonder which neighbor was downloading p-o-r-n at 5am.

Ordered the mobile version last night. I was talking to my POC at our builder and she said it works well for them. Their house is bigger and they have kiddos at home that eat bandwidth. Should be a week or two.

POC? Point of contact?

Have you tried the app to scout for obstructions yet at the site(s) you want for the antenna?

All the best,

Peter

I’m in the boondocks in Washington right now and the location is sea level surrounded by elevation except for small inlet.

My work around is to use the T-Mobil phone as a hot spot on the upstairs bedroom window sill at a tilted angle and then from no bars I have 2 bars.

Since any movement loses signal I use it as hotspot for the Verizon phone and it all works…

Actually have to do this at the Oakland residence too…

I know it is said most of the time providers share towers but with 3 different carriers I get 3 different results in the hinterland…

Yes, point of contact.

I should do that. The only obstructions around here are my buildings and trees. No big elevation issues.
