Starlink

I moved into a house that has been remodeled a few times. An awkard part of the house is the limited entry points from outside for cables and such for distribution to other parts of the house. In anticipation of Starlink, I ran ethernet cable from the main entry point to a closet where we currently have our mesh and DSL router. If I need to locate the Dish some distance from the house, then a long cable run could present some challenges. I guess I just have to wait for the Dish to arrive and then start problem solving.

Just in case: There are a variety of 3rd party short haul RF solutions to get a signal from a remote Starlink to your house.

Try it and see how you like it. Depending on how tall your trees are, and how close they are, your roof might work.

All the best,

Peter

We just drove past a huge Tesla facility going up east of Austin on 130. Glad he found something near Austin, but not in Austin. They don't deserve the influx of tax money.

For those outside of Texas, 130 is a tollway with speed limits of 80-85. Added benefit is getting to San Antonio from DFW without going through Austin city traffic.

All the best,
Received notification of shipping today. Afterwards went outside and did a check of the general area where I hope to place the Dish and things look promising. The last time I used the siting app was early last summer and I found it underwhelming, but there must have been an update because it was more helpful in understand possible obstructions. if I can mount it on the eaves of the roof above one of the easy entry points into the house, then I am within 75 feet of an ethernet cable that connects to my mesh... Hoping for the best. Meantime, I spent three hours blowing snow and using my new RatchetRake Snow Edge to push around 5 inches of new snow.

One thing to note, the connector on the router end of the cable is “L” shaped and rather large. I don’t see how I could fish it through the 3/4” conduit I had planned to use. Has anyone found a solution?

Isn't the other end of the cable smaller? I thought I heard that the newer rectangular dishes only required a 1/2" hole (i.e. through a wall) to run cable through, versus the 3/4" needed for the choke on the round dish cable.

The cable will disconnect from the dish, as much as you hate too just pull and it will disconnect.
I contacted service about the same issue as I had gently pulled and it did not disconnect.
