Also, you can just unplug the cable to the dishy at the AP end. So unless something comes loose up top there would be no need to get up there.

I do agree with not crawling on the roof if you don't have to though. Not sure how ill mess with antenna on my 60' HAM radio tower now that my neighbor sold his 60' man lift. I could climb the tower, but really don't want to (and don't have the proper harnesses).
Harnesses and safety lines are cheap in comparison to a fall, at least in my book. I find heights more challenging psychologically today than when I was younger for some reason.

Could you rent a man lift from your local rental store?

All the best,

Peter

I'll definitely be doing it in a safe manner. I just have no immediate need. If I were to have sn immediate need I'm sure I could find a man lift. With my back these days I'd likely hire a climber with the right gear than get the right gear & do it myself.

I believe in having the right toys & being self sufficient. But on some things the effort to properly train & equip myself for very occasional usage isn't worth it. Human life rated carabiner fail very easily if side loaded, ropes are only rated for a few years & a pile of other considerations I don't want to try & memorize.

Dude cuts the bottom of his dishy off, hard flat mounts it to the top of his overlander camper rig. Then cuts the cable & powers it with a DC POE injector running off automotive 12v instead of A/C. It sounds like it worked out well. Not sure if i'll go that far, but could see going that down that path partially on my RV trailer. Trailer gets parked next to the house, so it could serve the house too. May need to plug Ethernet into the trailer as WiFi might be a bit iffy through several walls & across the house.

Antenna is up!

took before and after photos - tried to get video of Dishy moving but by the time I got upstairs and the tablet cam brought up it stopped moving. OF COURSE. . .

Waiting on setup to finish. . .

view from the far edge of the lot, up on the slope.

it gives a good idea why this needed to be on a mast,

And this is why I need scaffolding to mount it on the house

And it is so nice that photos are uploading to TBN in under three second - normally this entire post would be the upload length of one photo posting!

And now my first post that is not on crappy DSL!
(y)(y):D Congratulations!!! Give it 24 hrs or so and then look at the app and see what your obstructions look like. It will also update the router and the dishy firmware in the next few days, most see an improvement after that happens.
Love it when a plan comes together!!

You are going thru the Georgia POP, which you can't change. I was originally going thru the Georgia POP and then suddenly I was changed to the NY POP. I have found the Georgia POP to be notoriously slow when doing speed tests. The server Speedtest.net chooses is not always the best. Try selecting different servers and see which one gives you the best results, then always select that one before you run the test. Your upload speeds are fairly typical, but your download speed should be better. Although as I think about it, I didn't see much better speeds when I was going thru the Georgia POP.
Yes your pictures help understand what you have been talking about.

seems like a lot of work if temporary, why not a telescoping flagpole and bushing adapter?

I had the Unistrut base from the solar installation and it made sense to work off that. Plus, I didn’t cut the Unistruth or EMT so it is going to be available for other projects.

Normally it goes up to War WV or to Hendersonville NC. I think this is the first time it has gone to Atlanta for me. . .

StarLink has finished its Visibility Scan. Here are all the obstructions it encountered from the 360-degree scan:

This is why all the aggravation of erecting that mast was so worthwhile

i want to go to Goodwill and buy a half-dozen PCs and just have them endlessly stream random videos for no other reason than I want to use all this bandwith I now have 😁

Don't worry they will throttle your service at some point and you will be back down to earth. I having service bouts of 10 Mbps down and 1.0 up especially on Sunday night, but its generally slower in the evening... a result of oversold service.
Not bad tonight
