Had to try one of these. Did buy better bolts, washers, etc, will probably do some welding on it too.

I know, getting into the "shouldn't do that" territory, trimming trees, storing stuff in high places, painting gutters, seems it can get some use.

VEVOR Forklift Safety Cage Work Platform 43 X 45 in. 1400 lbs. Forklift Work Platform with Wheels, Orange CCGZPTCYMS214BM9RV0 - The Home Depot

I do have/had many motorcycles, had many boats (CGA Certified for Coastal piloting), learning to fly ATM, drive a car. Only a couple minor mishaps in my 65 years, so I'm either lucky or the ability to say no, hope it's the latter.

This work platform and forks is not too much for the 2501 to handle easily, mechanically speaking (maybe 400lbs total).

Like the bigger one you got over the 3’x3’.

I have a 4 x 12 foot wooden work platform that is getting a bit shaky I have thought about a 4 x 10 ft from steel.

I imagine that in lightly loaded lifts most hydraulic/leak/burst failures happen at end of travel. Lowering the relief valve setting temporarily should lessen the risk on a people lift.

I found one at a scrapyard on a boom lift, added fork pockets, done

Seems a bit more, always get a bit more, like L vs B. B had self leveling, not much good if it can't lift and stay on its feet :cautious:

Suburban Plowboy, have a look at late model diggers. You are looking at the pipe work on each ram. All the extra stuff is to prevent a catastrophic drop if a hose blows out. You can probably add this gear (don't know what it is called) to your tractor's hydraulics.

I have one of the 3x3 work platforms for forklift forks that I lift with my 5055E. I do wish the railing were a little higher, I'm a tall guy. I know I could make it higher, but I just make sure I'm never reaching too far. If I am, I move the tractor.

I don't climb up into it, I have my 13 year old son run the loader. He's been doing it for a while and is good at it. I won't use it on uneven ground and if my son has to move the tractor, I'll have him lower me to within a few feet of the ground. That tractor has an extremely slow crawler, so it works well. We use hand signals.

I have had him move me around a bit higher, but only on a shop concrete floor. Since the shop at my new place is red iron, I don't think a ladder is safe except for on the walls.

I know a man-lift would be safer, but at least I'm not standing on a pallet. I might have to look into one of the styles shown here with the stands as a backup.

Like a good sturdy hand rail to hold on to or know it’s there if using both hands like with a chainsaw.
Wife is a good operator when I’m in the basket. Don’t think she knows how scared I am.

Help out one of your slower readers, here. What does "red iron" mean and why does it make ladders less safe?

The frame is metal as opposed to wood. It has a red coating, so is called red iron. But this also means the building does not have trusses every 8 or 10 feet like a pole barn.

I personally don't trust a ladder against a z-purlin with a smooth concrete floor. If it's against a wall, I think there is less chance of a ladder slipping, or at least something to land against if it does.

Maybe I'm overly cautious here, but that's just my view.

Rather be in a basket over a ladder anytime.

Agreed, especially if I need anything that won't fit in a pocket or on a belt. The downside of the basket is the need for ventilation.

I put my kids in it and I operate.....

EDIT: before someone freaks out, my kids are 22 and 35. Not little any more.
We used to go up in the bucket to pick grapes when I was much younger than your kids. We didn't think anything of it. As I got older and running tractors I mentioned it to my father, who said that the chances of both hoses failing at once were pretty slim.
He was around farm equipment all of his life and that's one of the few times he was wrong, as only one hose has to fail.

I still prefer to go up in the bucket. As some have mentioned, it's a choice between having the bucket drop or falling off a ladder. I do climb up the ladder to get into it, but that's still safer than crawling onto the roof.
It's a lot easier for the ladder to kick out while shoveling the roof off than for my loader to fail.

A single hose failure would cause the bucket to drop. But it wouldn't necessarily be at free fall speed, it would depend on the leak. E.g. a split in the line vs a hose blowing off a fitting.

I also take solace in the fact that my tools and I do weigh quite a bit less than the loader's capacity.....at least before lunch. šŸ˜†

I need a mat for my work platform. I've got a HEAVY duty mat in the shop (3/8"x36x48, 15lbs?), would be great cut down a bit, being solid (maybe not good???), not wanting to sacrifice it tho.

Got tired of poking at the jungle website. The H.D. hardware store is next.

Need to drill a hole or two to drain water, away for the casters, paint the holes for rust prevention.

First world problems!

Maybe check out the mats designed for horse stalls at tractor supply or the like

I use a front 3-point adapter to mount my carryall to the loader and sometimes I use it as a platform to cut branches when I need just a little more reach with the pole saw.

Hard to climb into it when more than about 3 feet up so I am thinking about making some kind of drop down ladder that might also serve as a support leg to keep it from falling if a hydro line breaks.

Not sure if worth the effort for the few times I do this, so still mulling it over.... however the carryall does make a good work platform.
