I think you can consider yourself lucky that something didn't get damaged.

Being I use mine a lot for clearing tress, I have to watch roots like a hawk. I have had a couple of them come back under the tractor. Once on the left and started to pull a wiring harness apart. Another time on the right loosened one of the hydraulic lines.

I need to invest in building some skid plates as you can't avoid them all.

Looks like a nice rig. Darn stumps can do amazing things. Sometimes a saws all with a aggressive blade works great on such thinks and may be safer than a chainsaw.

Lucky you caught it before any damage happened! I had one take out the engine oil filter on my 4610 Ford about 20 years ago. Instant oil bath, a real mess!

Yep, they get stuck under all sizes of machines from small to big. And there's a lot of sensitive stuff underneath these machines. Some worse than others. (the Steiner has a lot of hydro hoses near the ground... somewhat protected but they are not completely shielded)

The first thing I did after buying my Massey Furgeson was to make a skid plate for it. Didn't have to weld anything. Only power tools needed was a jig saw and a drill motor. It wasn't cheap, but I bet it's cheaper than the trip to your tractor dealer to fix the underside of the tractor. ;) Full details in the link.

I had a measly salmon berry cane find its way inside the center tunnel of my B7800 and catch the hydraulic return line hose and pop it off the pipe. Tractor bled out right there on the spot (about 1/4 mi from the house) and I had to tow it back home. Other than this incident the B7800 has been quite resilient in the face of all the brush that it's been thrust into.

Last summer I had a piece of that same nemesis jamb and pinch the fuel line on my Kioti. This tractor really needs a skid plate; but, I tend to be far more cautious with how it gets operated in and around brush (with the hydraulic top link I can raise and drop the bush hog [going in reverse of course] and this allows me to get a better sense of what's in the brush, better control).

I used to sell Caterpillar equipment and I knew of a skidder operator who was killed when a hickory sapling came into the operators platform and penetrated and worked its way through his torso. Even with the heavy gauge wire it came through it and killed him.
