Squealing Hydro Tranny - a comment.

My well worn (3500 hours) B1550 usually has a pretty noisy HST whine that I've learned to live with. I've done the usual maintenance things, like replacing screens and filters, and figure its about as good as it going to be without a major overhaul.

But heres something to consider. I've been away for six weeks, but a week ago a neighbour borrowed the tractor and drove it about half a mile to do a little backhoe work. When i started it this weekend I noticed straight away the tranny seemed a lot quieter. No nasty squealing at all, even when it was stone cold. Got me wondering if the 'long' drive in high range at 'high' speed did the little beast some good. (Most of my usual driving is just lots of short little bursts around my yard moving dirt and such with the loader). Maybe other owners with noisy trannys might like to try giving their tractors a bit of a longer run and see if it makes any difference.

We could make a day of it and take the whiny HSTs on a poker run.
In the mean time I'll pay attention to that next time I take her for a run down the road. Thanks for posting this observation.

I changed the SUDT out for TSC Traveller Premium multigrade UTF in my BX 2200. No more whine! it seems happier at both high & low temps. Go figure.

One of the most common reasons we've found for hydro's to whine is the brakes linkages often get rusty and don't release completely.

TSC's oil is a higher weight oil giving more starvation of the hydro on start ups!

I've heard that too that a simple change of brand of fluid can get rid of a whine, epecially on the kubota's when using UDT vs SUDT!
