Had a similar problem....almost got to -1C. But with a Super-human effort on my part was able to roll over and pull the covers up.

You're a Saint amongst men, Cobber. It's days like that when you hear your Mum's voice to "put a cardie on!"

I think your weather on the north Island is better then wagtails. You guys are just trying to keep it a secret so you do not have to put up with Yanks on Holiday running you off the road.

Nah We have the Chinese to do that.

<snert> Yeah, and come Spring you'll have to work 11 hours one night. :confused3:

I reckon all of you N.A. grumblebums are just ticked 'cause this is a sure sign that Winter is almost here... there's no going back to the halcyon days of Summer.

Whereas the looooooong days of Summer are just around the corner for me. :dance1:

Haven't had that luck yet...I switch between day and night shift every two weeks...So in the spring I wind up on days when DST kicks in...I lose an hours sleep, but work 12 hours...Can't win

Winter here is like spring in Chicago, where I moved from. The Canadian boys are who your comment applies to

I'm glad the State of Arizona does NOT do and time changes. It's the same zone all year long.

Out east I hated DST.

Ah ha... so every fortnight you experience a radical shift in personal time keeping/rhythms, making a biannual loss/gain of 1 hour pretty much moot.

(I suggest coming over to my side of the 'debate'. We can taunt the DST naysayers and laugh)
((because they're groggy from an hour's lack of sleep))
(((and they're a bunch of gurmblebums )))

My 'extra' hour yesterday was devoted to changing watches and clocks.

TN and KY are both "split states" where part of the state is CST and the other is EST. I didn't realize that IN was also split.

Years ago, part of IN (Western) did the clock swapping thing and the other part (Eastern) did not. My business partner and I had a meeting with a new prospective client in Eastern IN (we are in Western OH) and got lost on the way there (pre-cellphone and GPS days). We arrived about 20 minutes late. Two weeks later, after the time change, we had a followup meeting. We made sure that we left in time to be there a few minutes early and.... ended up being there 1:15 minutes early since they didn't switch their clocks there!

I think it's silly to move clocks, how about we just change our schedules? When I worked at a factory setting without DST, we had "Summer work hours". This was simple, starting work and hour early. TV/radio shows can do the same. But the clock should match the physics of our planet.

Another beef I have is it really depends where you are in your time zone. For example, if you live on the western edge of your time zone, you already have a sun set 1 hour later. Then add DST, now it's 2 hours later. In my case, they can't even have 4th of July fireworks start until 10:00 PM!!

I get it, it's nice to have sun light at the end of your work day. But when true solar noon is 2 hours shifted, it's going overboard.

As a side note; China is all on one time zone. You can bet they don't wake up 3-4 hours before sunrise to head to work.

Ok, I will champion DST.

With all the fuss to change the clocks twice a year I get an extra hour of daylight to mow the grass in the summer after getting home from work.
That's it. The benefit of DST.

Thank you all.

When I was still in the workforce, it was nice to have the extra hour of daylight to do my yard and garden chores and/or relax on the deck with a toddy. One drawback I recall was the kids having to wait for the bus in the dark, at least until the change back.

Geographically, China spans 5 time zones. The country itself keeps one standard time zone (Beijing time) which is kinda like 'PRC Zulu'.

Standard time & zones came about due to difficulties in scheduling train timetables in the UK.

And they used it for navigation at sea so they could wander down your way :)

Let me ask this: why isn't everyone on zulu time, or if you prefer UTC or GMT (all one in the same). The military runs on it, Aircraft operations run on it, Amateur radio operators keep time in it. Why do the normal civilian operations need time zones? Have we thought this thu? It is 23:43 UTC as I post this. And it is 23:43 all over the world.

How about we don't loose that hour in the winter? Wouldn't that be brilliant? The sun set at 4:40 today vs 5:40 last Saturday. I wouldn't complain if it was moved another hour forward so the sun currently set at 6:40.

Tell me then, why do they put headlights on riding mowers?

You do realise that, with your 'loosing an hour', that's one LESS hour of your Presidential Election that everyone on the PLANET has to put up with!!!!

That alone is worth it.
