Spring Ahead, Fall Back

How about instead of changing clocks twice a year, just change business/work times instead?

Have winter hours and summer hours. In winter, work from 8 to 5, then in summer change it to 7 to 4.

I think BCP has it right. Factories do this all the time, Summer early starting times. Why move clocks. Another point that is often over looked is where you reside. In Indiana, we are on the western end of the EST. So we are already 1 hr ahead. Adding another hr just makes no sense. Solar noon is at 12:00 right?, here it's at 2:00. Fire works can't start until 10:00.

I have never in my life used a clock on a microwave but set the time hundreds of times, otherwise it would not cook food. I have a routine where I just punch quickly punch in ones and twos, not caring if the time and date are right, just as long as the unit operates. Do manufacturers not see the stupidity in this? At least, have an option to shut it off, if they somehow think an appliance needs yet one more clock.

I'm still not finished changing all my clocks. I still have the garage, two car radios and the barn left. And then, there's always a couple more that pop up several days later, like my camera's built-in clock, telephone answering machine and the like. I really hate these time shifts.

More the reason to do away with it. I don't know anyone who really likes it. It leaves one wondering why we still have it. Like lawns, it's just a dumb habit with no useful purpose or return.

I am the odd man out I guess cuz I love it. I love working outside after work in the summer till 10ish and can still see. Sunrise at 4AM is a waste of daylight IMO.

Well quit lollygagging and get out of bed earlier. As they say, early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

I love the current time change, but what is the point of moving back in the fall? The days are short anyway. Why make it get dark an hour earlier?

Because it's too cold to golf anyway?

4570,

I agree I like having it light some what later. But why move clocks? It makes more sense we just adjust what part of the day we use. So instead of playing clock games, schools start 1 hr earlier, we go to work 1 hr earlier, TV scheduled just 1 hr later.

China has one time zone, you better believe the western regions are not waking up the same time as the east!
