I came across this video and found it quite interesting. It is long and I learned a lot that I will never need to know... but I stuck it out. Maybe this is ho hum for some of you but I thought this guy did a great job executing and teaching.

I agree with everything you said, I was waiting for a logging video to show up, I used this for filler material so I watched the whole thing, he's not only talented he's a great teacher, must be nice to be gifted.

He still does a few things around the shop but I liked his videos better when he worked for a living. :) And I hate when he stretches a 1-hour job into two videos over two weeks.

We had a spray weld setup where I worked and it was handy on bigger shafts like blower shafts. It is very messy so you do want to cover your lathe before spraying. I'm not a fan of the old cemented carbide tools VS nice sanvik finishing tools with inserts to get a nice finish and size. The spray will give you a nice finish but you need the surface speed and correct insert to get it.

I first thought the video title was going show welding like they do on crank shaft rebuilding but he seemed to think welding is not a good option because of heat movement, he might be right on heat movement on metal. I know on welding and or burning that I do, steel moves like crazy, but it works on crank shafts and they are just as critical as that shaft he was powder welding, wonder what the difference is, I always thought heat was heat.....

Oh, that's a long one. I know zero about spray welding, but then again I know zero about anything without google/youtube. :D
