Nearly 4 years I've tried to get Mrs. Texas Al to learn to brush hog a little, every now and then. Since she got the ducks, and I've been building the duck house for the last 3 weekends, she decided she wanted to brushhog yesterday.

She forgot to look up as she was mowing under a tree. The results are attached.

Alan,

It's called a battle scar. We all have them and all will continue to get them. Everytime you go out to the tractor and see the busted up canopy you can laugh some?? My existing battle scar is on the garage door right now. It is going to be about $325.00 to fix it. I was backing into the garage a few weeks back and for some reason the door started going down. I was looking down at the ground looking for the dog to make sure I wasn't running her over and the door came down and caught my ROPS. So until I get my door fixed I family laughs at me. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh and by the way, Spousal Abuse is when they take the tractor away from you and make you go do dishes or somthing like that. They will steal your seat time, make sure you don't get any seat time at all. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

This story reminds me of the time my wife used to bug me about "doing the wash".
So I washed her new wool sweater using hot water and then tossed it into the drier. She never bugs me about "doing the wash" anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

It is but for the grace of God I've not done some major damage with my tractor. I've knicked door frames twice with the loader bucket and once with a rear tire but avoided any real or permanent damage thus far. Please understand that I know I'll damage something severly soon enough. It's not a matter of "If" but only of "When" I do it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was mowing on uneven ground alongside my open RV trailer awning. The tractor tipped towards the awning and...well you can figure out the rest. The ROPS ripped about 12" of the awning before i could finally wiggle away from the trailer. I wacked the garage door frame of my new barn twice already. Not bad for my first year, eh?!!

And I have been wanting a canopy... I really can't sow you'd NOT do what she did, cutting grass, you are looking out for obstacles on the ground, not up top....

I guess if that had been metal, it would be crumpled, or she''d have been looking up in a hurry.

BTW, I hope Mrs Texas Al is OK

First time the wife decided to use the tractor to scrape out the paddocks (while I was out of town,of course) she forgot about the loader bucket out front and put a 4 foot slice through the barn wall. It didn't hurt the tractor but sure got her attention. She hasn't touched it for a year until this weekend when I was gone again. she had to call me to firgure out how to starts it but all went well.

Alan, at least you've got a wife to blame for it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif My wife has never gotten on, or had any desire to get on, a tractor. But I backed under a tree limb and bent my canopy myself. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif That was one reason I prefer the steel canopies. They can get bent and straightened instead of breaking. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A related story...Some friends of mine work on a siding crew and have a ladder rack on their pickup....it hauls their extension ladders and metal brake to the job site....they stick out over the cab of the truck a ways.....The crew stopped at a drive up donut shop one morning for coffee and when they got to the job the shops canopy awning was hanging from their extension ladder.........I think the police are still looking for them......TOM

Mrs. Alan L. (I said Mrs. Texas Al before, forgot my handle) was unhurt. When she saw me headed to the shop with my digital camera, she said "you better not put that on the tractor board!!". I don't mind very well.

Those of us married for more than a few years have learned that it's always our fault, right?!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just bought my tractor...we'll see if the spouse is willing to try it out soon. Interestingly, my 16 (almost 17) yr old daughter is dying to get behind the wheel...she'll walk around following me she likes the darn thing so much! How's that for a 16 yr old girl?!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I kind of prefer the situation of not having anyone to blame and not having anyone to give me grief if I wrinkle something. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I gladly accept full responsibility for all mistakes and damage in exchange for not having to submit purchase proposals for 'approval' to someone. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif It's really a bargain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Using my 21 years of marriage as experience, I'd recommend that you say absolutely nothing, and save it in the "bank". You'll never know when it might come in handy. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

You should introduce her to this young man. Seems they have a lot in common /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I wish MY teenagers were like these kids....

Reddog,

My daughter at 13 is already mowing with my TC29D and 72"MMM. I lost that seat time. If she figures out how to use the loader I am done. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Three things a man must know for a happy marriage,

1. Yes Dear!
2. I'm Sorry Dear!
3. You're Right Dear!

All three are required when it is your fault(always).

Reminds me of the story of my friends wife who came home with the Christmas tree strapped to the top of the Suburban. As she pulled in to the garage she raked the tree off and damaged the rack and garage door. Oh well, I could see it happening to me.
However, the punch line to the story is...........
Same thing happened the next year. Maybe my friend will buy here a fake tree.
