I spray a lot of roundup, 2-4d, remedy and soon remedy/reclaim mix. I have a 26 gal spot sprayer but continue to use a pump up unit to avoid corrosion because their all plastic. Is corrosion a problem with sureflow pumps used with these chemicals and how do you work to prevent it? I was thinking to rinse it after use and maybe pump some vegtable oil through it afterward. I'm thinking vegtable oil because I may want to use it for something other than killing everything, so petro oil residue may be bad. Will vegtable oil prevent corrosion enough? TIA, MP

I think the first thing you need to know is which ShurFlo Pump you're talking about. They make several different ones for different uses.

Now is exactly the right time to spray Reclaim... am getting ready to do that myself... Have used it for several years with extreme success... PM me if you wish details. Reclaim (without Remedy included) in the A&M mix is a superb foliar spray... and is EXTREMELY selective... I've sprayed mesquite with vines in it... and other trees growing in it... mesquite died and vines and other trees bushes didn't even have a brown leaf... truly amazing.
Thus, if you use Reclaim, I would have extremely little concern about residual ... so would simply run a lot of water thru it before the next application.

Been running gly phosphate and Amine thru a 12v sprayer for years and the only time it gets a good rinse is in the fall with anti freeze.bcs

After using a pump at work, we just run a little water/eco-safe antifreeze mix thru it. It has water pump lube built in.. won't freeze up in the winter, and has corrosion protection.. plus isn't poisoness to animals...

John, You spray reclaim W/O remedy on mesquite? I was going to use the brushbusters foliar mix, but I'll I've seen so far is the remedy/reclaim mix. I've just been using the remedy/diesel cut stump method so far and I've cleared thousands of trees.

I've had a fair amount of experience with ShurFlo pumps in RVs (12 volt demand systems, potable water only). I also repaired a neighbor's pump on a 25 or 26 gallon spray rig, and I've used my brother's 50 gallon spray rig (both of which were 12 volt bypass systems). But ShurFlo makes so many different ones with pressures from 20 psi to 150 psi, and different models may have Viton, Santoprene, or Geolast diaphragms. Now I don't know all the differences in what chemicals have an effect on those materials. But if I were you, I'd just contact ShurFlo through the web site I posted earlier to be sure. I can tell you that we only flushed them with clean water, whether they were being used for insecticides or herbicides, but there may be a better way.
